Two-County Cotton Organization Formed
About 25 cotton farmers and gin managers from Jones and Shackelford counties met in Stamford on May 10 to form an improvement association to boost cotton quality. The group will work with Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Inc and survey area cotton using mechanical classing devices at Texas Tech. Darry Schoonmaker was elected president with Kenneth Hansen as vice president and Clinton Moss as secretary treasurer. A charter committee will file for incorporation and draft by-laws, with directors to be chosen for each gin and a board to plan yearly activities.

Jones County Nonfarm Workers Earn Taxable Wages
About 2,250 workers in Jones County's nonfarming businesses earned taxable wages under the old age survivors and disability insurance program. Four hundred thirteen reporting units paid out some 1.8 million dollars in the first quarter of 1965. The largest employment sector was retail trade with 740 workers.
