Squirrels Adopt Home in Hackberry Trees by Post Office

Nine squirrels were collected and placed in hackberry trees near the post office adding interest to the plaza. The movement began last week when a stray built a nest, prompting donations, tree houses, and care from Pete Ray and TD Browning. Lueders Child Killed in Auto Wreck

Special to The Mernecan said Little Jackie Henbest seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs HH Henbest was instantly killed in a Sunday night automobile accident three miles west of Eastland. The Henbest family returning from Eastland were in a Chevrolet coupe when struck by a speeding passing car causing the vehicle to overturn. Avon five was bruised. parents and their one year old son unharmed. Jackie’s body was taken to Eastland then buried in Carthage Missouri where the family had moved from earlier in the spring. Mr Henbest works for Bedford Carthage Stone Company.

Arrests Mount in Pecos Car Theft Ring Ties Stamford Sale

Oliver Bruce of Breckenridge was arrested in Pecos in connection with a string of auto thefts. Three stolen 1930 model Fords were sold in Stamford. This marks the fourth arrest with more arrests anticipated. Three Stamford residents who bought the cars were released on $500 bond each.

Lueders Encampment Holds Closest Session and Close

The Lueders Baptist encampment closed Sunday after a well attended final service. Dr W R White spoke at Sunday night services while 50 plus West Texans were named as officers and directors at Friday's session. The 1927 roster lists numerous Abilene Rochester Stamford and other area leaders with a long slate of trustees and directors. Ronald Collins of Roanoke Va keeps a pet pigeon that flies to his classroom in Virginia Heights daily.
