Anson Man Cecil Hunter Indicted for Killing in Stamford

Anson farmer Cecil Hunter is indicted for murder in the Stamford killing of Ralph Shirley, 27, who operated a filling station in Anson. Shirley was beaten with a single tree at the Fare home on North Webb Street and died at Stamford Sanitarium. Hunter, 35, was arrested after approaching officers seeking notification. The same grand jury also indicted J. Saffel for murder in the June Windham death and assault to murder Frank Windham.

Grand Jury Called in Anson for Fatal Windham Shooting

A special grand jury was empaneled in the 104th district court to consider the June 13 fatal shooting of J. W. Windham near Anson and the murder charge against Jim Saffel. Judge W. R. Home Demonstration Club Meeting Hasting July 24

The Home Demonstration Club of Hasting met at the Hasting school house last Wednesday with nine members and two visitors. Rain interrupted the discussion on Our School and the next topic will be Posture and Care of the Feet. Members will answer roll call about their most satisfactory shoe and why. Miss Halsey will attend the next meeting Friday July 24 at three o'clock.

Summer Assembly Conducted by Local Methodist Youth

Young people from St. John's Methodist church hold a Summer Assembly on a wooded lot east of the parsonage on East McHarg Avenue. One Arrest Made And Others Will Probably Follow

A car theft ring stealing three 1980 Ford cars in West Texas towns and selling them in Stamford led to the arrest of Johnny Moore in Pecos at the request of Chief Flournoy. The other two recovered cars were bought by local residents, with serial numbers altered but traceable. More arrests are expected as investigators pursue the ring.

Stamford Youth Crystal Alexander Dies After River Diving

Crystal L. Alexander popular Stamford High student and former football player died Sunday after a diving accident at Riversite Park near Stamford. He fractured his fourth vertebra, had previous neck injury, and was treated in Lueders and Stamford Sanatorium before burial at Highland Cemetery.
