Industrial survey backs Stamford move to lure new industry

Blackstock Completes Week-Long Photography Course

John L. Blackstock of Blackstock Studio Stamford completed a week-long course in Principles of Commercial Photography at the Winona School of Professional Photography. He received a special Certificate of Merit for mastering camera swings lighting product photography interior exterior architecture and copy photography with practical art principles.

Stamford Pilot to Co-pilot B 52 in SAC Event

Capt Raymond Hollanaugh son of Mr and Mrs Lester Fallabaugh of Stamford will be co pilot on a B 52 Stratofortress competing in the Strategic Air Command 13th annual bombing navigation competition at Fairchild AFB Washington in September. He is stationed at Dyess AFB.

Clarke Third in College Rodeo National Finals

Claybourne Clarke of Stamford finished third in bareback riding at the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association finals in Laramie Wyoming July 6 10. He earned 54 points on Goose the best ride in the final round and helped Sul Ross State College place second overall. The rodeo was videotaped by NBC for Sports in Action on August 1.

Purcell to Speak at Cotton Growers Meeting Friday

Congressman Graham Purcell, chair of the House Agriculture Committee, will headline the first annual Rolling Plains Cotton Growers meeting at Stamford High School Auditorium at 2:00 p m Friday. VFW Team Wins Junior League Baseball Title

The Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsored team won the Junior League of Stamfoord Little League title with a 10 2 1 record edging First Baptist Rotary Exchange in a four team race. They will compete at Haskell July 28 in District 7 action with the district winner advancing to the state tournament August 2 to 6. William E Goff will receive a Bachelor of Divinity degree July 23 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. he is married to Emilee Griffith of Paint Creek.

Delegate Learns Government at Girls State in Austin

Sally Carothers, daughter of G C Carothers Jr., attended Girls State at the Texas School for the Blind in Austin as a Rotary Club delegate. She served as a senator and saw her bill abolishing capital punishment pass the senate, noting the experience deepened her patriotism and knowledge of legislative processes. Russell covered the Rotary Club sponsored Little League team and the issues managers face.

Grass Fire Reported in Stamford West Reynolds Block

Stamford Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the 900 block of West Reynolds at 5 15 am Tuesday. Fire crews controlled the blaze and reported no injuries or further incidents.

4 H Dress Revue Judging Slated For July 26

The Jones County 441 Club girls will have their garments judged on Monday July 26 at 10 in the office of Mrs. Mary Y Newberry with Mrs Agnes Marrs as judge. Younger entrants may submit a sewing box or apron. The dress revue will be July 27 at 2 30 P M in Anson First Baptist Church fellowship hall with separate age groups. Senior winner advances to District JIT dress revue in Vernon August 6.

Stamford faces growing water needs by 1980 council told

Council heard from S W Freese water engineer that Lake Stamford will not meet Stamford and Hamlin needs by 1980 with an estimated municipal yield of about 1 985 acre feet annually after half the lake’s supply is reserved for West Texas Utilities. Freese noted the difference between agency yield estimates and his. discussed improving supply via California Creek floods and the need for a state survey. The panel deferred action on HasKell water purchase and further lake studies until the next meeting.
