Cpl John R Nail aerial engineer from Stamford Texas based in India is awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by Brig Gen William H Tunner commander of the India China Division Air Transport Command. The citation notes 300 hours of combat transport flying over dangerous routes from December 3 1944 to March 30 1946 under harsh weather and night and day operations. His wife and parents live in Stamford.

Pte. John W. Hughes, son of Mrs. Rosa L. Hughes of this city, arrived in Stamford on a 15 day furlough after returning home February 12 1945 from European service. He was wounded in Germany while serving as a cannoneer with Cannon Company 116th Infantry Regiment 29th Division. Hughes entered the Army May 7 1942 and served 28 months overseas. He holds the Purple Heart Combat Infantry badge Good Conduct Medal and the European Theater ribbon with one star.

Troops 40 and 41 capped a weeklong camping trip ending Saturday morning near Reagan Wells. Thirty-three boys joined by Scoutmaster I A Russell and helpers traveled by cattle truck, camped on Dry Fire River north of Uvalde, enjoyed swimming, fishing, and visits to San Antonio including the Alamo and Brackenridge Park before returning to Stamford.
