George Kinney recently returned home after over a year abroad. He and his wife Doris Pope traveled from Fort Worth to Stamford after a furlough. Kinney served in the 137th General Hospital X ray department in England and has held posts at Camp Wolters Camp Robinson and Camp Ellis before three months training at O’Riley General Hospital and a year at Camp Butner. He plans to report to a camp in Alabama for reassignment.

Scout Troop 42 Home from Camp Near Ruidoso
Scout Troop 42 returned Saturday from a week at Mescalero Reservation near Ruidoso New Mexico. W D Kight who will be 90 next December retires from skating a pastime he cherished since 1908. He fondly recalls skating with top partners and continues to stay active with trips to town. Corporal Virgil A. Stanley of Stamford and the 36th Infantry Regiment received the Bronze Star for taking part in the Salerno amphibious assault in September 1943. He also holds the Combat Infantryman’s badge, American Defense, Good Conduct, European Theater ribbons with five battle stars, and a Presidential citation for December 1944 in Selestat, France. Stanley states he was wounded twice and considers himself lucky. His wife Louise Roger of Stamford works in Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. A J Garrette aged 89 died Tuesday at 4 am in Stamford Sanitarium after a stroke in Hamlin. She came from San Antonio to visit family and attended the Texas Cowboy Reunion. Barrow Funeral Home carried the body to San Marcos for services and burial. She was born January 25 1861 in Texas and leaves six sons two daughters 18 grandchildren and surviving siblings.
