Lake Stamford Boat Regatta Plans Ahead For July Race Day

Plans for a Lake Stamford boat regatta on July 28 bring fast racing to the area for the first time under National Boatboard Association sanction. Races start at 2 pm and end before 6 pm with classes including Runabout and Hydroplane, and tickets sold in nearby towns or at the gate.

First Lady of USAFE Named A Hickman

Amelia Hickman known in Stamford as Fula Loep Hickman is chosen as USAFE first lady. She will receive 100 dollars and round trip to Washington for the Air Force Association anniversary convention from July 30 to August, then plans a 30 day furlough and visit Texas. Hickman, a 14 year service veteran, is stationed at Landstuhl Air Base Germany as supervisor of base supply.

School Opens September 2 Under One Diploma Plan

The school board set Monday September 2 as opening day with registration at that time and a calendar like last year. The one diploma plan will replace multiple diplomas and the transcript will show completed subjects. Two teachers resigned and a fifth Washington school position was created to maintain accreditation. Integration at the high school will not be pursued due to 55th legislature actions. A special meeting August 22 will adopt the 1957 58 budget.

Cooperation With Haskell Determines Best Road To Park

Stamford Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee favors joint action with Haskell County to secure a paved road to the Lake Stamford state park. District Highway Engineer Jake Roberts says the project would fall under the far-to-market program and depend on Haskell County’s allotment. Denver Firm Plans Buyout of Feldt Manufacturing Co

Miller and Company would take over Feldt Manufacturing Company if propositions are met. Denver based Cole would assure plant operation in Stamford upon acquiring all Feldt stocks and bonds. Stockholders and bond holders are called to a meeting Thursday night July 18 at 7 pm in the high school auditorium to review the full proposal. The plan involves no extra Stamford money but requires all stocks and bonds.

The Feld Manufacturing Company considers restructuring with a $100000 offer for the Brownwood Georgia and Denver plants. The plan would create a separate local corporation, employ about 60 people, and keep the Ten Tex Western Wear brand. Explorer Scouts Plan Canoe Trip Into Canada

Stamford Explorer scouts led by Dr Tom Thunites and Dr Cromwell depart Friday for a canoe expedition into Canada. They aim to return by August 4 after July 2 through August 1 in the Quetlcn Nations Park wilderness area with ten boys including two from Athene. The trip follows a Kansas City baseball game and proceeds to Summers base camp in Minnesota before crossing into Canada three miles from the nearest settlement.

R L L Criswell Dies After Horse Incident at Hereford

R L L Criswell longtime SMS foreman who lived at Throckmorton and later Hereford died July 5 after head injury from a horse fall. He carried the U S flag for years at Texas Cowboy Reunion and retired in 1953 because of health. He survived by wife two sons and two daughters. Floyd Brigham had a serious operation at VA hospital in Big Spring and is slowly improving with Mrs Brigham by his side.
