C B Smith Home Damaged By Large Tuesday Fire

The home of Mr and Mrs C B Smith on East Vanderbalt street was badly damaged by a fire discovered about 6 p m Tuesday. Loss estimated at 2500 to 2750 dollars, the heaviest fire loss in the city this year per Fire Marshal L Meeker. Fire started in a clothes teleset in a back bedroom attributed to spontaneous ignition.

Stamford Wheat Marketed In Texas Territory

Around 50 000 bushels of wheat have been marketed in Stamford this season with little rain ahead. No 1 milling wheat around 36 cents per bushel, local milling buying at 45 cents until storage space filled. Wheat from surrounding towns and territory yields about 1% bushels per acre, with profits limited at 31 to 46 cents. The crop has brought perhaps 100 000 in Stamford territory, oats and barley remain unsold due to low prices.

Colbert River Ranch Sold to Odessa Oilman Hendrick

Sale of Colbert River Ranch near Stamford including 8000 acres and the ranch home on Clear Fork of the Brazos River was announced by Colbert Land and Cattle Company president R V Colbert. John T Cross of Fort Worth handles the transaction. Hendrick, an Odessa oil and cattle man, reputedly one of West Texas wealthiest men, is expected to finalize transfer after title examination.

Lueders Baptist Encampment Set to Open Monday

Expect record attendance as the Lueders Baptist Encampment opens next Monday with plans for large delegations from many towns including Knox City Rule and Abilene. The grounds are prepared with tents and cottages ready, and multiple conference leaders are scheduled for doctrinal and mission sessions.

Funeral Service For J. H. Baldwin Held Here Friday

J J Baldwin aged th of Old Glory died in Stamford from a heart attack suffered at his ranch near Old Glory. He was born January 2, 1856 in Fannin County Texas. The service was led at St John s Methodist with multiple pastors assisting and body sent to Honey Grove for burial. He is survived by his wife a son and a daughter and two brothers and a sister. Barrow Undertaking Company handled arrangements.

Yantis Diks At Home On West Side

F. Yantis died at his home in the western part of the city Monday morning at 2 o'clock after a long illness. He was 60 years old, born in Kentucky, a carpenter by trade, and is survived by his wife and six brothers. Funeral services were held at Kinney's Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Sam Morris, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery.

Two armed bandits entered the Roosters Club in Garfield New Jersey and stripped 41 members of their trousers before fleeing with 1100 dollars in cash and jewelry.

Stamford Area Sees Nearly Two Inches of Rain

Heavy overnight rain drenched the Stamford area with near two inches from 12:50 a.m. to about 6 a.m., delaying drought worries and aiding cotton growth. Government gauge by the Stamford Chamber of Commerce recorded 1.0 inches, with other local gauges showing 0.8 to 2.0 inches across nearby towns. The rain extended along the Katy to Dublin and toward Amarillo, marking July’s first notable precipitation after seven weeks.

John L Hudson Dies After Stroke At Abilene

Funeral for John L Hudson, 65, long time Belton native and Stamford traveler, was held at Central Presbyterian Church. He died in Abilene after a stroke suffered Tuesday and was laid to rest in Belton after services in Stamford and Abilene. Survived by wife Nora Tuttle Hudson, his parents, siblings, and several relatives, with out of town attendees from Denver, Del Rio, and Carmel Valley.
