Readable event list shows a scampered schedule including roping contests, grand entries, chuckwagon dinners, and special acts at Chuckhouse and Bunkhouse venues in Arcana. Notable items include calf, cutting, and American Quarter Horse contests, along with square dance and sponsors events.
The event features a 5 horse chuckwagon grand entry at 6 to 10 pm with contests in rope and clown acts, calf roping, and rodeo performances. Special Acts include rope artist, clown, and square dance with final champion awards and a dance at the pavilion on reunion grounds.
Churches extend a cordial invitation to attend Sunday services. Sunday school meets at 9 45 to 10 a m in all churches and morning worship follows at 10 50 to 11 a m. Attendees are urged to visit the church of their choice.
The Texas Cowboy Reunion in Stamford is organized by businessmen led by W. G. Swenson with L. M. Hardy as vice president and Clay Markham as treasurer. Directors include Hardy Swenson Roy Arledge Judge BE Coombes A M G Swenson K K Francis and Geo Pryor. Committee chairs wear seven by hats gifted by the reunion as a sign of service and dedication.
The War Department informs Mr and Mrs August Stremmel of Lagerton that their son, Sergeant Willie E Stremmel, wounded July 15 1941 at St Lo died July 14 is on the way for re burial He had served since January 2 1942 training at Camp Wolters Port Brags and overseas duty in North Africa Sicily and the invasion of England in 1944 He was born June 21 1917 near Sagerton and is survived by parents two sisters two brothers three nephews and three nieces.
The Texas Cowboy Reunion guest cabin will host distinguished visitors during dinners July 2 4 and 5 with Henry Andrews as host and chef. Governor Beauford Jester attends the July 3 luncheon along with reunion chairs and wives, plus Mrs George Pryor. Notables include Coke Stevenson Lyndon Johnson and other regional figures.
The Texas Cowboy Reunion Association's Oldtimers gather at the Bunkhouse July 3 with G C Carothers presiding. Officers to be elected include H C Coffey J Eric Swenson and Charles E Coombes secretary treasurer. A list of directors and officers from Stamford Midl and other towns is given.
The annual American Quarter Horse show tied to the Texas Cowboy Reunion will feature official judging Sunday at 1 p.m. Grand champion and reserve champions for stallions and mares will be chosen from division winners with ribbons and trophies from the American Quarter Horse Association. New this year are performance classes, with prize money across divisions and a rosette and saddle for the overall rein-ing champion. Roy Arledge notes broader entry reach and growing interest.
Rodeo judges for the Texas Cowboy Reunion remain unchanged from last year. The panel includes Bill Damron of Haskell, George Humphries of Guthrie, W B Willingham of Rotan, Foy Proctor of Midland, and Ed Heller of Dundee who have long served in the role.
Anson will have two sponsors at the Texas Cowboy Reunion. Mary Baker will represent the Lions club and Anne Bowyer will represent the Anson Chamber of Commerce. Miss Baker is Roy Baker’s daughter and Miss Bowyer is the daughter of Tr. and Mrs. John C. Bowyer. Bowyer’s grandfather helped found Anson.
Contestants and visitors converge on Stamford for the eighteenth Texas Cowboy Reunion a three day celebration featuring six rodeo performances daily Friday Saturday and Monday oldtime cowboys dances and grand parade open at 11 a m Friday. The event includes calf roping cow milking bareback and saddle bronc riding with prizes including saddles cash awards and numerous contests plus a memorial service and annual Texas Cowboy Reunion Association meeting.
Improvements at the Texas Cowboy Reunion this year simplify handling rodeo stock. New stall barns and stock pens, totaling three and a half barns, create two extra pens. The arena area is leveled, hayracks added, and the arantage system widened. a refreshed contestants hut offers more space and a new sidewalk.
Stamford Municipal pool reports expanding swimming instruction with three beginner groups. Mrs John M Bennett, summer program instructor, says the 9 a m to 9:30 a m class, advanced beginners 9:30 to 10 a m, and early beginners 10 to 11 a m now run on Monday Wednesday and Friday.
Mr and Mrs J G Swint of Hobbs New Mexico formerly of Stamford visited here briefly Monday en route to Fort Worth Houston and San Antonio They are on a two week vacation trip and had visits with relatives and friends Monday
