With the May 1 Democratic primary filing deadline four days away, Jones County sees contested sheriff and Precinct 1 commissioner races while county attorney and tax collector positions remain unopposed. Fire destroys church in Lueders after January blaze

First Baptist Church of Lueders burned completely on the night of January 21. Firefighters from Lueders Stamford and Anson fought the two story stone and brick structure, valued at about 150000 dollars and insured for 80000. The congregation will worship at the Big Country Baptist Assembly while plans for rebuilding are considered.

Liberty Tree to be dedicated in Stamford Friday

Stamford plans a Friday ceremony at 2 30 p m on the east side of the post office to dedicate a Liberty Tree a Tejas pecan planted as part of the American Revolution Bicentennial effort. I F Hudson mayor will MC and H G Andrews Jr will speak as the local group leads the event. The public is invited.

Stamford American announces February classified rate increase

Publisher Roy M. Craig states new classified rates take effect with the first February issue. A one insertion minimum rises to 1.50 with 20 words. after 20 words seven cents per extra word. Consecutive weekly insertions carry a 1.00 minimum or five cents per word. Cash with order or by 10 a.m. Wednesday. Subscription prices rise March 1.

Hearing set on Stamford Hospital District summary judgment

At 9 a.m. in Anson Judge J Neil Daniel will hear Stamford Hospital Districts request for summary judgment in a suit brought by south Jones County taxpayers. The case includes a potential jury trial decision and involves the attorney general as a defendant. A related Hamlin Hospital District case also faces a ruling following a jury verdict for plaintiffs opposing inclusion.

Stamford High seniors stage The Children's Story

Stamford High School seniors of 1976 present The Children's Story by James Clavell Friday and Saturday January 30 and 31 at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium. The play aims to prompt debate on American heritage and ideals of patriotism education and daily Christian living with music narration and acting credits listed. Tickets are $1 50 student presale $1 75 at door and $2 for adults with tickets from seniors or at the door.

License plate stickers go on sale Monday in Stamford

Stamford motorists begin annual vehicle registration with multi year plates for 1976. Stickers go on sale Monday and run through April 1, must be displayed by midnight that day. Obtain stickers at Bishop Electric Service, 218 W. McHarg, with Deputy Mrs. Enis Bishop handling county duties.

Sticker program details for license plate validation

Mrs. Bishop notes motorists must bring computer cards for validation before stickers are issued. Registration fees remain unchanged. Each motorist will receive one sticker to place in the upper left corner of the rear license plate, stapled to an instruction card with four steps for proper application.
