Teletype Net Begins Operation Over Area
The new teletype net started January 17 linking Stamford Police with West Texas law agencies. 41 terminals across 19 counties, a $39,857 grant approved by Gov. Preston Smith funds the system. Automated switching in Austin will connect Stamford statewide. Police Sgt. Louis Johnson says the net speeds information flow and cuts costs as officers trained in the system.

Funeral service for Mrs. C. A. Summers 55 was held January 23 at Paint Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Griffith officiating. Burial followed at Highland Memorial Cemetery. She died January 22 after a 28 day illness in Stamford Memorial Hospital. Born Opal Medford November 3 1915 in Camanche she moved to Haskell County in 1921. She married C. C. Summers in 1933 and lived eight miles north of Avoca. Survivors include her husband of Avoca a son Don of San Angelo two sisters Mrs A L Davis of Lubbock and Mrs E F Bell of Taft four brothers H E Medford of Fort Worth C L of Rule Leslie and Thurman of Haskell and two grandchildren.

Stam ford Housing Authority administrator N M Phy told Rotarians the 1960 rent ceilings and income limits remain fixed. No tenant can earn over 400 dollars monthly or hold assets above 5000, with top rent at 438.25 dollars. He seeks higher ceilings but district officials won’t adjust. Stamford has five unit areas with vacancies and a waiting list. 1970 total income 12233.53 with 6423.22 in salaries. Tax exempt, it paid 975 in lieu of taxes to Jones County city school and hospital districts. Phy notes many tenants stay long while some are turned away for non qualification.

Mrs Maxwell Dies in Abilene
Funeral for Amanda Maxwell 77 will be at 10 a.m. January 28 at Orient Street Church of Christ with Fenter Northern officiating. Burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery. She died January 26 at Hendrick Memorial Hospital Abilene. Born Amanda Hinds January 3 1894 Bastrop County. She married O B Maxwell in 1913. they moved from Kaufman to Jones County in 1923 and Stamford in 1934. Ab Davis Rent House Destroyed In Tuesday Fire
A rental home owned by Ab Davis burned Tuesday night when adjacent trash caught fire. Fire chief Bill Lawson reported the roof and walls collapsed as firefighters arrived, damaging nearby utility lines and gas meters. The house was vacant at the time and a separate Christmas morning blaze had caused earlier damage. Lawson noted 19 ambulance calls and seven other fire calls this month, and another home near Avoca owned by Frank Rogers was destroyed earlier this month.

Stamford Carnegie Library won a $1000 grant from the federal Library Services and Construction Act Title I funds selected by the Texas State Library. Funds will buy reference and children's books and support rebinding. Grants totaled $1,245,033 to 152 Texas libraries based on local per capita support and population served.

Funeral for James W. Les Gray age 71 was January 26 at the Kinney Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Paul Lakey of Oliver Street Church of Christ officiating.
