Seniors To Present Class Play Saturday
The Stamford Senior Class presents the 1971 play If That's Where It's At Baby I'm Not Going Saturday at 7 30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Directed by Mrs. Jack Southerland and produced via Eldridge Publishing Co. and Dramatics Publishing Co. The cast of about 40 includes Bobby Prichard Carolyn Reed Claudia Runkley David Clark Lauriece Jones Jane Gregory and Matt Selmon. The comedy centers on a college campus strike and campus life before normal activities return.

Stamford Lions To Celebrate Anniversary
The Stamford Lions Club will celebrate their 1th anniversary with a banquet honoring charter members January 26 at 7 30 p m at the Cliff House. Colored slides will depict the charter night meeting, with reflections and an address on Americanism by LL D Curtis Ramey of Fort Worth. District Governor Lloyd Neely will read the charter.

Turn Row Fire Destroys Rogers Home Near Avoca
A January 17 blaze five miles south and 1.5 miles west of Avoca destroyed Mrs Opal D Rogers home and personal effects while the garage and outbuildings were saved. Firemen estimated about 12000 in damages. Mrs Rogers was hospitalized in Abilene at the time. The fire reportedly started from grass ignited by burning rows near the house. Ambulance calls total 12 this year.

Pierian Club's anti-pollution poster contest crowned 4th to 6th graders at City Hall on Jan 14. Over 200 posters were judged. first prizes included cash and blue ribbons from local sponsors such as Upshaw, B&P Memorials, and Stamford American Co. Winners spanned four grades with multiple students named for first second and third place.

Safeway Leads City Building Permits in 1970 Totals
Building permits in 1970 totaled 307 425 for 49 permits. Safeway Stores received the largest single permit at 120 000 for a new building. Other mercantile permits went to Franklin's Body Shop and Jones County Barn. Seven new home permits and 42 electrical permits were issued, plus ten moving permits including trailer houses and relocations.
