Youth Must Forego Thrills As He Mends After Fall

Fred Rollo, after finishing high school in Eades Colorado, worked painting water tanks with Water Tank Service. He fell about 75 feet from a Stamford tower catwalk, injuring his left leg in multiple fractures and sustaining possible internal injuries. He was hospitalized at Stamford Memorial Hospital with his mother by his side.

Two Teachers Named by Board at Stamford Schools

The Stamford school board at its January meeting approved two new staff hires. Mrs. C. O. Richards becomes high school English teacher replacing health resigning Geneva Huffaker. Mrs. Woodie Beene takes over elementary duties for Jannice Jones and will be paid regular salary.

Reverend Wyatt Underwood dies at 85 in Arkansas City

Rev. Wyatt R. Underwood, 85, retired Baptist minister, died of leukemia in Arkansas City, Arkansas. Funeral at First Baptist Stamford at 2 pm Thursday with Rev. Jack Southerland officiating. Burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Survived by two daughters, two sons, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.

Nurse Lo Nell Jones to Speak at WMU Meeting

Lo Nell Jones a nurse administrator at Hendrick Memorial Hospital will address the Women's Missionary Union First Baptist Church on Tuesday morning January 31 at 9 30 discussing Mission and the Ministry of Healing. Jones a Stamford High School graduate earned a BS in nursing from Texas Christian University in 1962 and a MS in nursing from Washington University. All WMU members and interested women are invited.

County Receives 1967 Auto License Rates for County

The Jones County Tax Collector's office lists new automobile license rates effective February 1. Plates are white with black numerals and will be sold at three locations Stamford Hamlin and Tuederes. Plate ranges cover passenger cars trucks and farm vehicles with specific series allocated to each area.

Burglars Hit 14 Places Tuesday Night

Thirteen break ins occurred in Stamford Has kell County and Abilene areas with cigarette machines robbed and cash taken. Police detained three men in Abilene early Wednesday as possible suspects. In Stamford the Harvey Masters 66 Station and the Dairy Mart on Anson Highway were entered. On Novia Highway 277 the Shamrock Station Premier Station and the Tfill Top Cafe were robbed.

Stamford Firemen Respond to Four Alarms This Week

Stamford firemen answered four alarms this week. No major damage reported. A grass fire at 1402 Compton Street was extinguished. Tuesday incidents at 714 North Berthelot and West Bunkley Street involved trash and grass fires, with a larger grass blaze around 9 PM on Tuesday.

Hamlin Man Buys Local Service Station on Hamilton Street

Lunsford (Jay) Skaggs of Hamlin has purchased the Texas Company service station on Hamilton Street from Floyd Price. The Skaggs family will move to Stamford after selling their Hamlin home. They have two children Vatynda, 10, and Douglas, 8, and attend the Four Square Church.

Biutidogs keep first place tie with two wins this week

Stamford Bulldogs stay in a 5 AA share of top spot after two victories over Anson 52 to 49 and Haskell 67 to 54. Anson's Mike Brown led with 28 while Eddie Mays paced Stamford with 14. Danny Hargrove scored 20 as Cobb added 11. Next games: at Hamlin Friday and Winters Tuesday.

Stamford's coach Larry Wartes will address the high school pep squad football banquet Saturday night at 7 30 pm in the Cliff House. Linda Gokien serves as emcee as cheerleaders and twirlers perform and sing, with crowning of the football king and queen and gifts to coaches.
