Stamford plans for a March of Dimes drive are being developed this week led by county chairman Jack Jones of Lueders who seeks a local chair. A Mothers March is set for Jan 28 with Mrs Johnny Childress as chair. Donations can be left at the bank for John R Rice, county treasurer. In 1968 Jones County MOD raised 316.07 with 25 percent for medical research.

T. H. Gleaton Dies Monday In Hospital
Thomas H. Gleaton 82 died Monday afternoon in Stamford Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He lived at the Stamford Inn since mid 1966 and had long been a resident of Anson. Funeral was held Wednesday at Anson Methodist Church with Rev. Hardy Cole and Rev. Jerrel Sharp officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Born August 12 1886 in Natagusga Alabama he moved to Jones County and married Annie Eases on September 10 1906. He worked as a carpenter and served as custodian for Anson public schools retiring in 1954. Survivors include two sons Ryland of Stamford Neal of Sweetwater a brother W. W. of Hico a sister Mrs Earl Bartlett of Sweetwater and two grandchildren.

Insured Fire Loss in 1968 Lowest Since 1955
Stamford fire losses dropped to the lowest insured total in 13 years as 118 alarms were answered in 1968 and volunteers were called out only 24 times. Total insured loss stood at 11749.82 dollars, with 1955 at 7944 dollars and prior wartime lows noted by Fire Chief Dick Rowland.

Beene's Contract Extended by Stamford School Board
The Woodie Beene contract as Stamford school superintendent was extended through June 30 1971 by the board of trustees at a recent meeting. Beene has led Stamford schools since September 1966. The board also named Nancy Coody Morales as Spanish teacher succeeding Patsy Tonrey who resigned due to illness. Morales hails from Breckenridge, daughter of a ranching family.

Library May Get Federal Title I Grant
Stamford's Carnegie Library may receive a $1,000 federal Title I grant for books and research material. Mrs. Russell Crownover told the city council that the money comes via the state library board and city qualification is assured. Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 with $1,000 typical for a town this size. The council reaffirmed the library as a legal city entity. Funds will buy basic non fiction books.

City Court Fines Reach 4684 in Stamford 1968
