County FFA 4 H Stock Show at Anson Saturday

Jones County Livestock Show to be held in Anson at the Jones County Fairgrounds this Saturday. Entry limit for Jones County FFA boys and Jones County 4-H members with about 980 entries this year. General superintendent Don Welch of Lueders Avoca High School. assistants Medford and Wel don Holbrooks of Stamford. Jerry Terrell of Stamford in charge of publicity. Charles Stenholm show secretary. Judges include Al Maeberry Ro tan for dairy beef swine. Billy Kmiffen ACC senior Livestock Judging Team member to judge sheep. Tom Whiteaker Buffalo Gap to judge rabbits and poultry. Prize money totals 1500 with ten trophies. Area Young Farmers aiding. Darryl Schoonmaker to supervise cattle bee with Don Walker and Carl Marugg assisting. Stamford Senior Class rehearses for the January 23 production If That's Where It's At Baby I'm Not Going by David Rogers. Mrs Jack Southerland directs about 35 seniors with tryouts held before Christmas and tickets at the door or from senior class members.

Jones County commissioners held a long Monday session with routine year start actions. Johnie Agnew named judge pro tem. Juror pay set at 5 in special venues, 4 or 5 for regular jurors. bailiffs at 7.50 daily. County agent auto expense 7.50 monthly, demonstration agent 9.80 monthly. Tax collector automobile registrations 20 monthly. Tayor Office Machines and Lee L. Jacobs service contracts renewed. Treasurer’s report review set for Jan 99. Deputy salaries adjusted, Mrs. Frank Wilson appointed deputy in sheriff’s office replacing Arden Beasley.

Police Report Shows 1921 Calls in Stamford for 1970

Stamford Police answered 1,921 calls in 1970. Miscelaneous nuisance calls totaled 505, traffic tickets 242, arrests 233, ambulance 239, and only one vehicle stolen. Traffic accidents 118, public disturbances 136, prowlers 49, hit and run 9, vandalism 42, juvenile arrests 27, burglaries 23, larceny 44, other agency arrests 22, messages 133, and funerals 98.

Advisory Committee Pushes Science Lab Priority for Stamford

The Citizens Advisory Committee to the Stamford School Board urges a science lab at the junior high, a high school remodeling, and janitorial program overhaul. Council to Discuss Sewer Plant With Engineers

Stamford city council will interview engineering firms at a special meeting Friday January 29 to review improvements at the sewage disposal plant and sewer extensions in annexed areas including Westwind Circle the hospital area and North Swenson Street. Mayor James Self said the session will also cover bids for a new city hall boiler and the council renewed a lease with Wylie B Harrison for airport space as Lone Star Gas Co franchise renewal is referred to the city attorney for study.

Stamford Minister to Lead Africa Mission Campaign

Center D Northern of Orient Street Church of Christ will join 56 missionaries to Port Elizabeth South Africa for a door to door evangelism drive in a city of 350000 with mixed Negro Dutch and English residents. The workers must obtain government permission to reach the Negro area under strict segregation laws. After 28 days in Africa the group will tour the Holy Land and Athens before returning March in Dallas Love Field.

Federal Savings Reports New High In Interest Paid

Stamford Federal Savings and Loan reports record 1970 results. Interest paid to customers reached $574,455.61 while new savings rose to $1,333,319.59 and total savings on deposit climbed to $11,840,771.60. New loans in 1970 exceeded $3 million, pushing total assets beyond $14,300,000.

Firebelles to Hold City Hall Meeting for Officer Election

The Firebelles will meet Monday January 18 at 7 p.m. in City Hall dining room to elect officers and conduct club business. Members are urged to attend and participate in the vote.

Bulldogs Fall To Hamlin In 7AA Opener

Stamford Bulldogs lost the 7AA opener 40-38 to Hamlin Pipers in Hamlin with both teams hampered by cold shooting. The stanza-by-stanza scores show a 19-12 halftime spread and a 15-point fourth quarter rally by Stamford not enough to overcome the Hamlin edge.
