Legion Campaign Urges Poll Tax Payment In Stamford
Vernon D. Hart Post of the American Legion led by Post Commander Harry R. Fuller is conducting a drive to secure poll tax payments. The group printed 1000 window stickers and posted them on cars and prominent places. Citizens failing to pay by January 31 will be disenfranchised in all elections.

Cantata Ruth Draws Large Crowd at First Baptist Hamlin
The Hamlin High School Choral Club presented the cantata Ruth at First Baptist Church last Sunday with 30 voices and assisting male singers. The crowd filled the church auditorium and received the performance warmly. Two couples joined the church during Sunday morning services.

Quiet Abilene Wedding Brings Snyder and Spears Home
Last Sunday nine o clock Miss Virginia Snyder and Mr Elmer Spears of Abilene quietly wed at the bride’s parents home. Rev Harris of the Christian church officiated with only family present. The couple left for a short trip to Fort Worth and Dallas and will reside in Stamford. Strong sentiment in favor of keeping the National Guard company in Stamford was voiced at a regular American Legion meeting. Officers attended as Paul Snyder Frank M Locke L B Cole and others spoke on benefits to Stamford and enlisted youths. Scout master Rev M B Harris reported the Legion troop reached about 30 members and Roscoe Hood noted boxing matches organized by the Legion with several strong bouts planned. Annie Lorraine Patterson Nash died after her clothing caught fire at her home near Peacock Territory on Tuesday January 11. She aged about 24 was daughter of Mr and Mrs J D B Patterson ranch people. Funeral held Wednesday January 32 with burial at Apee Enveant. Rev Wate of Jayten conducted. Penick Hughes Co of Stamford handled arrangements. Great crowd attended. Pallbearers listed.

The home of Meami Mes Dhennin Khea on South Swenson Avenue burned last Sunday morning while the family and other occupants were away. The origin of the blaze was not determined.
