Stamford Couple Robbed of 300 On Highway 18 Incident

Harry Bounds and wife Allene Bounds were held up near their home at 597 East Davenport street around 7 30 PM Tuesday. Two men fled in a car after taking about 300 in cash and checks from the couple who were preparing to drive to the bank to report receipts. Chief Flournoy investigates.

The Stamford Poultry Show concluded last Friday night as the most successful in years with higher numbers and quality. Judges R. L. Young of Abilene presided as prize winners are listed across White Leghorns Barred Rocks Wyandottes and other breeds with Stamford entries dominant in many classes.

Legionnaires to Attend Convention in Abilene This Weekend

The Vernon D Hart Post of the American Legion plans a large delegation to the district Legion convention at Abilene Saturday evening and Sunday. Some delegates depart Saturday afternoon, some Saturday night, others Sunday morning. Transportation will be provided for attendees lacking means, arranged through Frank Locke.

Rain Fells In Stamford Area Boosts Winter Preparations

More than an inch of rain fell in Stamford and vicinity with 1.05 inches recorded at Lyles Economy. The moisture aids soil for winter plowing and stock water tanks, as drought had depleted supplies. Last Sunday drew strong Presbyterian Church attendance and a visit by Rev. Chas H. McDonald D D, secretary of Men’s Work. The year begins with hopes of growth in numbers and spirituality as Stamford’s churches plan events.

Fire Department Annual Banquet Is Big Success

Stamford celebrated its annual firemen banquet at the Stamford Inn with prominent guests from Stamford and Anson. Fire Chief Dick Rowland acted as toastmaster and introduced speakers including Judge E. Coombes Col R L Penick Mayor Warren Tayman Rev Mr Garner and Anson Chief Edwards.
