Cotton Planting Rule for 1962 Boosts Farmers

Stamford cattle buyer Tom H. Hargus dies in highway crash

Funeral services held for 79 year old Tom H. Hargus of Stamford a cattle buyer who died Friday morning in a head on crash on Highway 277 near Stamford. L T McGinnis of Abilene was hospitalized and two other occupants were not. Survivors include wife two sons Oscar and Steve a daughter Anna Belle Dearley11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Fewer Alarms Answered by Local Firemen

Stamford firemen reduced alarms this week as cotton ginning winds down. They responded to a gin fire at Avoca, a grass fire on West Moran Street in Stormford, and three alarms on Saturday. Minor fires burned at Farmers Gin and Douthit's, plus a Purdue Ranch grass fire covering about 20 acres.

Raymond Berry to Speak At City Football Banquet

Raymond Berry All-Pro end of the Baltimore Colts will speak at Stamford’s Bulldog banquet Friday night February 2 at the National Guard Armory. Lori Prichard of KD WT will host. Consolidation of Rural Routes Reduces Stamford Mail Mileage

Consolidation of rural mail routes from the Stamford post office becomes effective January 20 with an annual saving of 3408 dollars. Route 1 will be split between Routes 2 and 3, increasing mileage for carriers and adjusting salaries. The new routes will total about 78.65 miles for Route 2 and 83.89 miles for Route 3, with deliveries completed by noon and no change in overall service.

County 4H and FFA Livestock Show Planned in Stamford

More than 400 entries are expected in the Jones County 4H and FFA livestock show to be held in Stamford Friday and Saturday. FFA chapters from Stamford Avoca Lueders Anson Hamlin and Hawley and 41 members from county clubs will enter animals or poultry in the show sponsored jointly by Stamford and Anson chambers of commerce.

Stamford Woman Faces Murder Trial Set For March 26

Brenda Ivy Wimberly's trial for murder is scheduled for March 26 in 104th District Court at Anson. She was indicted last week on two counts, murder and assault with a prohibited weapon, connected to the October 16 shooting of her estranged husband James Wimberly near the First Baptist Church on East Moran Street.

Nazarenes Plan Revival Service in New Braunfels Church

Revival services begin Sunday night at the new Church of the Nazarene 909 S. Ferguson New Braunfels. Anson Grocer Enters Race for Representative

Foy Basly a Jones County grocer and stock farmer announces candidacy for state representative in the 83rd district. He was born in Knox County and has operated in Anson since 1939. He is a World War I veteran, married with two children, and seeks the Democratic nomination in the district covering Jones Haskell Knox Baylor and Throckmorton counties with a formal statement to follow.
