The Stamford FFA hosts its second annual livestock show on the downtown square Saturday January 12 from 8 30 a m to noon. Judges include Clemon Montgomery of Big Spring with prizes for champions and reserve champions but no cash awards. The event features fat lambs breeding sheep beef cattle and dairy cattle and is part of a larger schedule including swine broiler and capon shows February 1 2 at Hamlin and the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds. Hearing Set for Road District 1 Bond Election in Jones County
Jones County Commissioners Court set January 25 as the hearing date on an appeal for a new election in Road District No 1 to consider issuing 60000 in bonds to buy right of way for widening Highway 92 between Stamford and Hamlin. The December 18 vote failed. a two thirds majority is required. The Texas Highway Department has earmarked about 500000 for the project, contingent on county right of way. County Judge H G Andrews said the election may occur February 26 after a 30 day wait following the hearing.

Jaycee Wheelbarrow Derby Raises 520 for Dimes Drive
Stamford Jaycees held an annual wheelbarrow derby to raise funds for the March of Dimes totaling 520.50 dollars. Two two-person teams rode and pushed wheelbarrows along a course from Highland cemetery to the square, with jeeps and placards promoting the charity. The Haskell Indians captured first place at the Stamford invitational basketball tournament with a 47-41 victory over the Avoca Mustangs. Avoca had won the tournament for the prior three years.
