Region 6 City Officials to Meet in Stamford

City managers mayors and council members from Region 6 Texas will gather in Stamford at Clif House Friday night. Hal Woodward chairman of the Texas Highway Commission will speak, introduced by H G Andrews Jr. about 40 to 50 attendees expected with Stamford hosts.

Rural Carriers To Meet Here Saturday Night

Stamford hosts the annual Brazos Valley Rural Carriers Association meeting at Cliff House. State president Leroy Gibson of Quanah and past state head John Loftin of Loving are expected to speak alongside 17th District officers such as Buford Knight of Abilene. Mickey McKinley leads the local group with Jack Crockett as secretary treasurer. Wives auxiliary also set to meet during the session.

Four Crowns for Mareida musical to feature 71 local children

Tickets go on sale for Four Crowns for Mareida a Stamford Music Club production to be staged Monday March 11 in the high school auditorium. Winter Weather Returns to West Texas After Brief Warm Spell

A brief spring tease gave way to a sharp cold snap as a wet norther with sleet and snow moved through the Stamford area. Temperatures dropped to the 20s with winds 20 to 30 mph, canceling many Wednesday activities while a prior Tuesday sun brought the 70s.

Three Year Probated Term For Quanah Cattle Theft

C E F Curry of Quanah received a three year probated term in 104th District Court on a July 24 theft in Hodges community. The cattle, three head owned by Buster Jones, were to be paid for by the defendant.

Stamford Students Compete To Select Lions Youth Exchange

About 15 Stamford boys and girls compete Sunday to pick a Stamford Lions Club youth to join 100 Texas students on a July 3 to August 13 trip to Scandinavia. The winner will stay with Lions hosts in Europe, visiting Stockholm Amsterdam Lucerne Antwerp Paris and London.

Man Faces Murder Charge After Saturday Stamford Shooting

Philip Segura 27 of Stamford is held on 2000 bond on a murder charge with the case slated for the 104th District Court grand jury session Feb 29. Felipe Gomez Gomez 23 dies after a 2 a.m. shooting on South Occident Street following an argument with Segura who returned with a rifle. Gomez is survived by wife Estralene Lopez, a son Felipe Jr., and parents.

Mrs. Alma Carlson Rites Held At Bethel Church

Mrs. Alma Carlson 1885 1966 died Sunday in Stamford Memorial Hospital. Services conducted Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church by Dr. Hugo B. Haterius. Burial in church cemetery, Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Elsie Plumlee Dies at 82, Services Held in Stamford

Mrs. Elsie Plumlee 75 died Friday at Stamford Memorial Hospital after two months illness. Services were held Sunday at St. John’s Methodist Church with Rev. Jarrell Sharp. Burial in Highland Cemetery. Survivors: son Dexter, daughters Mrs. Earl Portwood and Mrs. Morris Bailey, two brothers Tom and Bert Spalding, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.

Murder trial date reset to March 25 for Chaney Jr.

Judge Owen Thomas schedules the murder trial of Marion A. Chaney Jr. of Abilene for March 25 in the case charging the killing of J. B. Price at Fort Phantom Hill Lake on August 12. The trial had been set for January 29.

City Eyes Stam ford Paving As Property Owners Signal Interest

Council hears Stam ford paving may be eventual with five blocks filed for paving and more streets eyed. City manager Kerry Sweatt says cost and wider Reynolds Street determine feasibility. Stamford Area Soldier Earns Bronze Star and Purple Heart

Pfc. Glen Baumbach from Stamford receives the Bronze Star for capturing a Viet Cong prisoner under fire and the Purple Heart after shrapnel wounds to his left arm and hand. He is reassigned at Hill 35 near the Laotian border with the 196th Light Infantry. Baumbach is a Paint Creek High School alumnus and son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Baumbach.

Heart Fund drive date changed due to muddy streets

The Heart Fund house to house campaign was postponed because rain made streets too slick. Mrs. H. H. Corley, chairwoman, said the drive will occur later in a different format. Lioness Club and B&PW Club members will cover assigned areas between now and month end with Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts making house calls as planned.

Stamford Adopts Emergency Ordinance on Overdue Library Books

The Stamford City Council approved an emergency measure making it a misdemeanor to keep library books beyond due dates. About 100 to 150 overdue items valued at $300 remain unreturned as the city plans registered mail notices and possible fines up to $200.
