Earl Portwood Funeral Service Friday
Funeral services for Earl Portwood age 4 will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Southerland and center Northern of Orient Street Church of Christ presiding. Burial is in Highland Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home guidance. Portwood died February 28 in Stamford Memorial Hospital after an eight day illness. He was born August 19, 1913 in Wylie Texas and moved to Stamford in 1929. He married Loretta Plumlee September 12, 1936 in Stamford. Survivors include his wife a son Jerry Portwood of Seattle Washington a daughter Mrs Charles Turner of Sierra Vista Arizona five grandchildren three brothers Cleo of Caney Creed and Ed of Stamford two sisters Mrs Dora Adderholt of Stamford and Mrs Frank Neuman of Grenville Pallbearers are Luther Bokding Edgar Sorrell Wilbur Sorrell Joe Benton Lon Goodwin and Stacy Burney.

REA Oratorical Finals Set For Monday Night In Stamford
The finals for the REA Oratorical contest sponsored by Stamford Electric Cooperative will be held Monday night March 4 1968 at 7 00 pm in the Stamford High School Auditorium. Eleven finalists from Anson Haskell Lueders Avoca Old Glory Paint Creek Stamford and Ruse vie for top honors and an all expense paid trip to Washington DC in June as part of the Texas Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. Judges are Norman Winter Don Waddell and Harry Holt with refreshments served after the contest.

Last Rites for Mrs Schroeder Set Thursday
Mrs Alma Schroeder 76 died Tuesday night after a 10 day illness. Funeral at 10 am Thursday at St John s Methodist Church in Stamford with Rev Jarreil Sharp officiating. Burial in Memorial Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home direction. Survivors include six sons, two daughters, fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several siblings.
Segerstrom Services Set Thursday
Ernest Segerstrom 73, a farmer from the Lueders area, died Tuesday at Hendrick Memorial Hospital Abilene after 10 days as a patient. Funeral Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church with burial in Bethel Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Effie, daughter Mrs Walter Heller, two grandchildren, two sisters, and three brothers. He served in World War I Navy and was a Bethel Lutheran member.

Stamford residents seek another paving block, bringing signed properties to six on McKinley Street between Rotan and Hamilton. City Manager Kerry Sweatt says firms are available at city hall or the Chamber of Commerce to obtain required 51 percent signatures. The council will discuss costs for paving Reynolds Street from the Katy Railroad to city limits and will open chassis bids for a new fire truck at Friday’s meeting.

Man Charged With Felony Theft Near Hospital
An Aspec iment man, Jimmy Wayne Poynter, was charged with felony theft after copper pipe was found in a car abandoned near Stamford Memorial Hospital. Police arrested him at about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Sgt. Louis Johnson and Sheriff Dave Reyes handled the case.
