The Stamford city council canvassed December bond results in a special meeting. Proposition 1 bonds for waterworks amounting to 80000 passed 82 to 42, and Proposition 2 for sewer bonds of 20000 passed 84 to 37. First Southwest Co. will handle issuance details after attorney general approval, about 30 days. The council also annexed Dr. George Pryor’s Lake Boulevard home to city limits. Bill Longley chaired. Mayor Carothers absent.

Miss Lavelle’s Father Dies in Pennsylvania
John J. Lavelle father of Miss Catherine Lavelle of Stamford died Saturday in Pennsylvania. His body was flown to Denver for last rites at St. Catherine’s Thursday morning. Born in Ireland November 7 1865 he visited Stamford on several occasions. Miss Lavelle was in Denver when word arrived. Three daughters besides Miss Lavelle survive along with one son J R Lavelle of Stratford Pennsylvania. Survivors include Mrs Evelyn Dees and Mrs F R Linienmaier of Denver and Mrs Mary Collins of San Francisco.

Truck Driver Trapped After Overturned Freight Tractor
James Allen Tucker, 39, of Brownfield, spent about 90 minutes pinned in the cab of his overturned truck during freezing weather. Suffering shock and facial injuries, he was treated at Stamford Sanitarium after a driver forced off the road on a farm-to-market road near Stamford. Cotton bales spilled from the truck, which belonged to E. O. Winkles of Brownfield. highway patrol investigated with Arthur Dyson and Billy Davis assisting.

Ce cil Harmon Miller a welder for Lone Star Gas Company sustained a broken right arm and head injuries when his car struck a bridge on U S Highway 277 about 9 45 Wednesday morning December 23 four and a half miles south of Stamford. He was taken to Anson hospital by County Attorney Charles E Brownfield after the crash. Highway patrolmen Arthur Dyson and Billy Davis investigated the accident.

T. F. Sosebee head of the city water and sewer department was hospitalized after a two car collision at McHare and Wetherbee streets early Wednesday. Father of Former Local Minister Dies in Dallas
Rev. Charles Edward Fike Sr retired Methodist minister and father of Rev. Charles Fike who formerly led St. John's Methodist church here died Friday in Dallas after a three month illness. He was born in Pleasant Hill La educated at Centenary College and Vanderbilt. He entered the ministry in 1910 and retired in 1949. Survivors include his wife a brother two sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral service was held at Oak Lawn Methodist Church and burial in Crown Hill Memorial Park.

Funeral service for L A Wendeborn, born 1862 in Germany, was conducted Thursday at the Kinney and Son chapel with Rev H S Hinson officiating. Burial followed in Fairview cemetery at Sagerton. Surviving are nine children including John and Walter of Lagerton and Mrs Fred Spitzer, Mrs Schonerstedt of Stamford. 28 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. The Stamford softball field is named for his first grandson L A Wendeborn Jr, killed in World War II.

Crede Jackson Caddell, 46, of Ride, died in a flash fire north of Old Glory while feeding oil into 500 barrel storage tanks. Two tanks burned as his clothing ignited. he ran about 50 feet before collapsing. Rescue workers failed to saved him. he left a wife and three sons.

VEW Auxiliary Delivers 16 Christmas Baskets to Needy Families

More than 34 Stamford families received Christmas dinners clothing and toys from local churches and groups including First Baptist St. Johns Methodist and Christian Church plus Eastern Star American Legion Auxiliary Exchange Club and VFW Auxiliary. The Red Cross connected families to participating groups and aided food and clothing drives. One nine-child Latin American family was aided with clothing food and gifts while a Sunday school class outfitted a youngster with clothes and a turkey. No family appears to have been left out and the season’s spirit warmed many households.
