Jeanie Tredemeyer Tops American Sales Contest for TV Prize

Jeanie Tredemeyer of near Old Glory won a Zenith television set as first prize in Stamford American Junior Salesman subscription contest. The four week campaign added over 200 new subscriptions. Prizes also went to Tom Lovvorn Jerry Williams and Leslie Baitz with bicycles and cash rewards based on commissions and points.

Funeral for Mrs Nowlin Set Wednesday

Mrs. A. F. E. Nowlin aged 81 died unexpectedly Tuesday at 1 40 am at the home of her daughter Mrs R L Bohannon in the Rockdale community. She had lived in Jones county since 1905 and recently returned from Mabanks where she had been visiting. Funeral Wednesday December 23 at 2 pm at St John s Methodist Church with Rev Herschel Thurston and Rev Marshall Rhew conducting. Burial in Highland cemetery Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Stamford Coaches Receive $1000 Bonus From Booster Club

Stamford fans divided about $1000 among three coaches from the Quarterback club. Head Coach Gordon Wood got $650, O. M. Isbel $300, and Bill Anderson $200 for their work with Stamford boys. Bland Harrison presented the funds as booster club president.

Dr McInturff Family Relocates to Abilene

Dr and Mrs C L McInturff and their son Charles Ray move from the area after six and a half years. Active in Church of Christ affairs, he serves as treasurer and teacher in youth classes while she teaches the Ladies class. He also led the Exchange club as secretary treasurer. she is treasurer of the Business and Professional Women's Club. They plan to leave at month end for 505 Mulberry Street in Abilene.

Student Night At First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church hosts Student Night on Sunday with college students and high school seniors forming the choir playing instruments and ushering. Rev. Byron Bryant delivers the message on Youth in a Christ Centered Life with four youths as speakers. A Watch Night service and Youth Fellowship follow, and the Kelleys return to Stamford with Mrs. Kelley formerly Mary Jean Keen.

School Pupils Stage Carol Sing At Reynolds Street School

A stained glass window scene at Reynolds Street school featured four snow figures and decorated trees as art pupils from Reynolds and Oliver Elementary schools led carol singing Monday evening December 21. Civic groups and local businesses supplied materials and services for the display constructed by 4th to 6th graders under Mrs. Joe Nowlin. The event drew boys, girls and older residents with Mrs. Garth McCallum guiding the carols.

Lueders Switches to Stamford Lake Water System

The city of Lueders now receives water from the Stamford Lake supply on Paint Creek. Final changeover occurred within the past week. Water for Lueders and Stamford was piped from Lueders and gravity flow required line changes to serve Avoce Humble Camp and Lueders. Valves were installed and the Lueders plant placed on emergency standby.

Stamford Approves $100,000 Bond Issue by Voters

Stamford voters approved two general obligation bonds totaling 100000 for waterworks and sewer system extensions. The waterworks proposal 80000 received 52 yes 42 no, while the 20000 sewer extension fell 41 to 37 in favor. Funds will cover current expansion and a new lift station, with bonds issued as needed.

The home of Dr. and Mrs. Hudson at 1020 Wells Avenue was judged first in a Christmas lighting contest sponsored by the Garden Club and the Stamford Chamber of Commerce.

Winners Named in Local Christmas Lighting Contest

The Hudson family at 1020 Wells Avenue won first prize in the annual lighting contest with a 10 by 6 foot display featuring carollers and a snow covered village. Second and third prizes went to the Bunkley and Haynes homes with prize amounts of 15, 10, and 5 dollars respectively. Honorable mentions were given to six other local homes as judges from the Anson Garden Club evaluated sixteen entries.

Two Boys Earn Eagle Scout At Hamlin Court of Honor

Billy Blackburn of Stamford and Doyle Brinegar of Hamlin received Eagle Scout badges at a December 14 Court of Honor at Hamlin Methodist Church. Doyle also earned the Explorer Silver Award. The event included a potluck, a district host, and multiple merit badges.

West Texas CofC Plans Conference on Industrial Development

The West Texas Chamber of Commerce announces a one day Abilene meeting January 28 for presidents managers and industrial committee members of local chambers. Heart Attack Fatal To Stamford Woman's Brother in Dallas

Mrs. G. C. Carothers learned Monday of the death of her brother Mann Tomlinson in a Dallas hospital after a heart attack. He is survived by a sister Mrs. Ralph Pierce of Dallas. Funeral plans for Mineral Wells were not set by Tuesday morning.

Donors Urged To Mail Checks For TB Seals

Jones County citizens were urged to mail payments for Tuberculosis Christmas Seals. Frances Bennett, Stam ford county chairman, said sales this year exceed last year but many have not paid. Total receipts reached $1248.64 with Hamlin contributing $582.30 and Stamford $297.50, Anson $291.85, Avoca $38.50, Lueders $28.50, Hawley $10.00.

Area Schools Resume Classes After Holidays

Area schools plan to resume after the Christmas break with Old Glory Sager ton and Rule returning Monday. Aspermont Paint Creek will resume Wednesday December 30 after a Tuesday dismissal. Stamford will be dismissed until January 4.

David Kohout to Spend Christmas in Germany

Airman Second Class David Punk Kohout who turned 22 on December 20 will spend Christmas in Germany. He arrived at Weisbaden Air Base in July 1992 and expects a three year tour. His parents are Mr and Mrs T J Kohout of Stanford.

Christmas Finds Two Brothers On Opposite Sides of World

Elton Portwood SN US Navy will spend Christmas in Pusan Korea after eight months abroad. Pfc James M Caton will celebrate in Bemberg Germany after serving on Heartbreak Ridge with the Second Infantry Division. Both brothers are sons of Cleo Portwood and are grandsons of Mrs. M Day and Mr Caton. They volunteered for overseas duty and were separated by duty, now both in Germany.
