Hillsboro Eagles Prep for State Title With Priddy At Center

Hillsboro right now a powerful Central Texas team as fullback Merlin Priddy, moved from guard, powers the offense. The Eagles seek their first state crown after 19 years, led by Priddy who holds all state honors and a 10 second 100 yard dash. Team includes Jackson, Fernandez, Curry, Terry, Natl, Himmel, Bennett, Moore, Mackey and Daily as key contributors. They depart for Abilene Sunday with several hundred Hillsboro fans expected to join the quest for a Monday title.

Capacity Crowd Set For Abilene AA Football Title Clash

Christmas Story in Music And Sermon Will Be Told In Area Church Services

Area churches in Stamford plan joint Christmas morning services centered on the birth of Jesus. Rev. J E Barnard notes visitors are welcome at all services. First Baptist will feature a Holy Land souvenir and an illustrated sermon by Rev. Byron Bryant with recordings from five choirs. Central Presbyterian hosts a single morning service with carols and a Nativity program.

Children Share Christmas Joy At Reynolds Street School

Sixteen pupils from Reynolds and Oliver Street schools gathered December 15 for a holiday party organized by fourth to sixth graders and the PTA. Gifts included footballs and marbles for boys and handmade monkeys for girls, plus clothing and groceries to aid families in need. Teachers and local club leaders including Mrs. Joe Nowlin and the Pierian Club assisted in planning and wrapping decorations and refreshments.

Cotton season in the area extends after Christmas with only a few straggling bales left to pick. Stamford ginners have reported 7852 bales, surpassing earlier expectations as most farmers achieved a somewhat heavier yield than anticipated.

J. L. Hart of Leeders, grandfather of Mike Hart who died last week, is a patient at Stamford Sanitarium. His wife, Mike's grandmother, is undergoing treatment in a Dallas hospital.

Christmas Business Brisk in Stamford Stores Open Late

Stamford merchants report brisk Christmas business with many stores staying open nights this week. Some will be open until 8 pm or later as needed while others close 6 or 7 pm Saturday to allow employees Christmas Eve with families. Monday and Tuesday December 26 and 27 are holidays in Stamford though some stores will be open Tuesday.

Christmas Music at Central Presbyterian and St John’s Church

Community enjoyed holiday music with a 33 minute vesper by Stamford Music Club at Central Presbyterian Church and the third annual Messiah presentation at St John’s Methodist Church. Handel’s work was aired on KDWT, with Bradford Moritz on piano and Richard Bouchett at the organ.

Frizells Visit Local Family After Alabama Staff School

Lt. and Mrs. Paul Frizell arrived Tuesday night from Montgomery Alabama where Lt Frizell attended staff school. They plan to return to Edwards Air Force Base California after the holidays to join their base and visit their parents Mr and Mrs J V Frizell Jr and Mr and Mrs Paul Duncan.

Albert York became ill while entering West Side Baptist Church Tuesday night. Rescued by ambulance, he collapsed and suffered facial abrasions before being taken to Stamford Sanitarium where he receives treatment.
