Stamford Goodfellows seek Christmas donations

Stamford Goodfellows, an invisible extension of good will at Christmastime, seek donations to fill Christmas baskets and provide toys for children. Contributions may be made through the Stamford Chamber of Commerce at City Hall, with gifts distributed later in cooperation with the Stamford Ministerial Alliance.

Community clinic offers free shots before holidays

On the third Tuesday, December 18, a free immunization clinic runs from 5 to 7 pm at the Community Kindergarten. Nurses from Stamford Memorial Hospital will administer a variety of shots at no cost to children and families attending.

Contract let on painting court house

A Stamford man L G Goodwin won the contract to repaint the interior of the Jones County court house at Anson. The $4600 bid covers two basement offices, offices on the first floor, and the district clerk and county school superintendent offices on the west end floor. the district court room is excluded as recently redone.

Stamford Adopts Waste Water Ordinance and Sets Penalties

City council approves ordinance 481 updating industrial waste rules to align with EPA and Texas standards. It permits fines for noncompliance, outlines fees for locating and correcting violations, and authorizes enforcement by the city manager. The meeting also covers backhoe bids, cemetery equipment, and municipal hiring and directory plans.

Gasoline shortage boosts holiday long distance calls

Bill Gilliland of Southwestern Bell says fuel limits and 50 mph speed rules will push more people to call family rather than travel this Christmas. The Bell System expects 12 million long distance calls, three million more than last year, with tips to dial direct before 10 am, 3 to 6 pm, or after 1 pm to get through faster. Extra operators will assist, and calls should be made on Christmas Eve or the preceding weekend to avoid congestion.

Hospital district expansion on Tuesday vote in Stamford

Voters in eastern Jones County will decide if the Stamford Hospital District should expand beyond its current one third area. The election, at Stamford High School auditorium, runs 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A simple majority will determine approval.

County panel weighs five requests from town delegates

Jones County commissioners heard five requests from Stamford Hamlin and Anson delegations. They approved one, proposed a night dispatcher from midnight to 8 am in the Anson sheriff's office, and took three others under advisement.

Lueders farm road paving request heads to highway engineer

Residents of Lueders petitioned Monday to pave a farm to market road from their town to speed workers’ access to Pride Refinery. County Judge Leon Thurman noted a 16 mile limit for farm road funds and will forward the request to District Highway Engineer Jake Roberts of Abilene. The Albany Nativity show will be held at Nancy Smith Elementary School with two December 2022 performances at 6:00 and 8:15 PM.
