Pollution Control District Plans Meeting Tuesday

The Mid-Breezes Pollution Control District schedules its second meeting Tuesday night at 7 30 in City Hall council room with lawmakers from four counties expected. A C Humphrey of Stamford, district chairman, invites county commissioners mayors and city councilmen to discuss salt water pollution threats and form committees. Oil company reps with exploration in the area are urged to attend as plans to hire an engineer and curb salt water intrusions are outlined.

Wednesday Services Held for Mrs. Chase

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kinney Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Darrell Chase 22 of Stamford born Posie Nell Morris. The shooting occurred Monday at 5 50 p.m. at her home and she died at the Abilene hospital chain. Justice Roscoe Hood ruled death by personal safety related gunshot wounds. She leaves a husband and two young children along with parents siblings and other relatives. Burial was in Trent Cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge.

Stamford Invitational Boys Tournament Opens With Eight Teams

Eight teams compete in the Stamford Invitational at Bull dog Gym January 2 3 and 4. Stamford fields both varsity and B teams with Hamlin Aspermont Avoca Baird Jim Ned and Clyde among the opponents. Action starts 4 p.m. January 2 as Hamlin meets Aspermont, Stamford B at 5 30 p m vs Avoca, and Stamford varsity vs Clyde at 8 30 p m.

Sub Debs Collect 62.20 for Tuberculosis Drive

Members of the Sub Deb Clay raised 62.20 for the Jones County Tuberculosis Association at a TB Bangle sale. The sum supports the Christmas Seal drive, bringing county totals to 1308.42 under executive secretary Mrs Mildred Williams. The drive trails last year’s collection but shows progress.

Goodwill Fund Aids Stamford Needy This Christmas

Stamford Chamber of Commerce mobilizes its Goodwill Committee to support the Goodfellow Fund collecting cash clothing and used toys for needy families. Last year 52 families received aid. this year donations lag as volunteers prepare boxes for delivery on Christmas Eve.

Arlington firm asked to estimate Lake Stamford park costs

Gene Schrickel and Associates of Arlington were invited to inspect city land at Lake Stamford and Harmon Park and prepare a cost estimate for a comprehensive development plan. The council discussed restrictions, street platting, and future playgrounds docks and ramps, with potential revenue from leasing park tracts. Harmon Park memories and public concerts were recalled as the council eyed future improvements.

Tax Valuation Survey Contract Let in Jones County

The Jones County commissioners awarded a $45,900 contract to McMorries of Amarillo for a complete ad valorem property survey to be finished by 1964. The firm will map land use and classify houses across towns, with local clerical help and possible one year support priced at $1,200.

Joint Christmas Party Planned by Haskell and Stamford Jaycees

Haskell and Stamford Jaycees will hold a joint Christmas party at the Cliff House on Saturday night. Wives and members from both groups are expected to attend. Couples will bring toys for a gift exchange to be donated to the Samford Chamber of Commerce Goodwill Committee for distribution to needy families.

Old Fashion Carol Sing Set Monday

The Stamford Music Club hosts the Old Fashioned Community Carol Sing on Monday night December 16 at 7 40 p m on the Post Office lawn. Local church choirs will join, an organ will accompany, and Mayor Roland Ketley will welcome attendees. Children are asked to bring small flashlights for reading the carol sheets. The event lasts about half an hour.

Former Stamford resident Dr W C Baird head of Humble Oil and Refining Co medical division in Houston is honored by the American Petroleum Institute for meritorious service to the petroleum industry. Shocking Winter Blast Brings Freezing Rain to Stamford

A bitter winter system hit the area Tuesday night with temperatures in the upper twenties and freezing rain expected through Wednesday. December began with moderate rain measured at 0.53 inches in Stamford, while intermittent sleet persisted into Wednesday morning and more sleet and freezing rain were forecast for the night and Thursday. The official arrival of winter is noted for Sunday December 22, the shortest day of the year.

Stanford High School All-District Band picks

Seven Stanfford High School band members earned spots in the All-District Band after Saturday tryouts in Anson. First chair bass Johnny Massey and first chair french horn Ingrid Haterius led the group, with Linda Mickler second chair bass clarinet and other selections including Judith Taylor third chair flute Gary Wolford fourth chair trombone Lisa Andrews eighth chair flute and Edie Hudson eighth chair horn. The all-district band gave a concert Saturday night.

Mrs Bauer 54 Dies After Lengthy Illness in Stamford

Mrs Ollie L Bauer 54 of Stamford died Tuesday at Stamford Memorial Hospital after about three weeks illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Rev Jack Southerland officiating. Burial in Houston handled by Pat H Foley Funeral Home. survivors include her mother Mrs H L Hager Stamford a daughter Mrs Bonnie J Morley Houston six sisters and two brothers with arrangements by Riker Warren Funeral Home Abilene
