Six Stamford youths face murder charges in Anson court

Six Stamford youths were arraigned in 104th District Court at Anson before Judge Owen B. Thomas on murder charges. Bonds were set at 5,800 each and the six remain in county jail as no bonds have been posted. Indicted by the grand jury are Seledonio R Delgrado 18 Jesse Cedillo 17 Ram on Cedillo 17 Joe Lopez Raymon Gallardo and John Mosis two juveniles. The alleged murder occurred November 1 at a barracks near the Stamford Coop Gin.

UF Final Total Reaches 15784 For United Fund Drive

Stamford's United Funds final total shows pledges of 15784.19, about 136.9 percent of the 11600 goal. Cash on hand 12030.99 will be used to fund the eight agencies with 2900 planned allocations, while pledges coming in will carry to next year. Special Gifts led by W T Stovall contributed 7763.44, with the Business Division at 2702.74. funds will be distributed in January and plans made for next year.

Santa to Arrive for Stamford Christmas Parade Saturday

A Santa arrival at 10:30 a.m. Saturday kicks off Stamford’s Christmas season despite uncertain snow. He rides a bright red truck in a downtown parade and spends the day meeting children while local dealers showcase farm equipment and new cars.

County Signs Contract For Valuation Survey

Jones County Commissioners in a special meeting voted to hire an Amarillo firm to conduct a tax valuation survey to aid the 1964 tax roll. The bid from McMorries and Co. was accepted at 45 600 with opening bids ranging 42 250 to 46 750. work to start immediately and cover undrawn or underrendered property to boost revenue. Judge Leon Thurman noted no prior county record of a tax value survey.

Christmas Seal Sale Trails Last Year in Jones County

Jones County's 1963 Christmas Seal Campaign falls short of last year's totals with $864.75 received by Dec 2 versus $973.30 a year earlier. Campaign chair Mrs. Corley urged greater community support to fight respiratory diseases, noting local towns totals: Anson 166.50, Avoca 26.00, Hawley 11.00, Hamlin 297.50, Lueders 37.00, Stamford 26.75.

Camp Fire Girls Plan Cookie Sale Downtown

The No-Yo-Di Camp Fire girls plan a cookies and candy sale in the downtown area. The sale was organized at the December 7 meeting at Mrs Gene Turnbow’s home with Mrs Bob Beauchamp as assistant leader. Jackie Beauchamp presided as president.

Jury of View Named to Set Value of Land

A three man jury of view was named to value eight parcels needed for widening Highway 277 between Stamford and Anson. Members F M Connell B Barrett and Earl Boler of Anson were named with deeds pending from the state highway department. The route will become a two road freeway with separate north south roads as currently.

First Work Starts Today at Factory

Carhartt of Texas begins producing ladies blouses at the Stamford factory on the third floor of the Humphrey buildings. Charlie Coln, 28 years in garments, is factory manager. SN operators start Thursday. 30 to 35 workers by Monday, 30 to 45 more early January. Coln moved from Madisonville. two sons named. The plant uses an assembly line. another line to be added soon. Job applicants may apply on the third floor. Carhartt makes ladies sportswear in Dallas.

Thief Steals New Coffee Dispenser at Stamford Memorial

A thief took a new coffee dispenser from Stamford Memorial Hospital between midnight and 7 am Tuesday, depriving staff and visitors of coffee in the southeast entrance reception area. An older unit was pressed into service, and hospital staff express frustration over the loss.

The Sugar Shack drive in eating establishment on the Anson highway will hold a grand opening Saturday with free refreshments all day. The event will include Hooto nanny featuring the Sugar Daddies, a local music group, as part of the activities.

Stamford Band Contests Set for Saturday at Anson High

About 12 to 15 Stamford High School Band members will compete Saturday morning at Anson High School for places in the JL District Band. Band Director W F E Mayes assists with judging. After selections, the group rehearses Saturday afternoon and gives a concert at 7 p.m. in the Anson High Auditorium. Mrs L V Pollard and Merk of Yakima Wash visited Stamford relatives.
