Wind Aided Firemen at Paint Creek School Fire

A December fire at Paint Creek School destroyed the west wing including two classrooms cafetorium and lunch facilities. Strong northeast wind helped firefighters save the main building though damage tops 100000 with some desks lent from Rochester schools. Rebuilding plans are under study by Superintendent Morrison and district officials.

Mrs. L. C. Trevillion Visits Kinard Family in December

Mrs. L. C. Trevillion formerly Mary Louise Kinard from Fairbanks Alaska visits her mother Mrs. R. M. Kinard. Trevillion is field secretary at Eielson AFB Alaska and plans a December visit.

Stamford Churches Plan Traditional Christmas Programs

Christmas season services and programs are announced by Stamford churches. Trinity Baptist hosts a 7 20 p m service and tree in Fellowship Hall with Rev Temple Lewis directing. Christ Lutheran Luther League conducts a December 22 service at 10 30 a m with caroling and Nativity scenes.

Oil men seek district action on salt water pollution

Oilmen from Stanford and Abilene joined ranchers and farmers in Jones, Fisher, Lone Walla and Taylor Counties to launch the Mid-Brazos Pollution Control District at City Hall. Art Jenke will study the four county area and propose steps and costs. next meeting set for January 28.

Connally Seeks Damages After Stamford Accident

Stamford policeman Bascom H. Connally seeks 62,509 in a 14th District Court suit against Hamlin resident Bill Meddox Jr. for injuries from a May collision on McHary Street. Connally alleges Meddox drove too fast, ran a red light, and had faulty lights. he was knocked about 50 feet, hospitalized, and still suffers impairments.

Gamblin Nominated for SWC Sportsmanship Award

UT guard Poply Gamblin, a senior with three varsity letters and Stamford High School roots, earned a SWC sportsmanship nomination. Former Stamford Bulldog standout helped win 1958 and 1959 Class AA State titles and is active in campus groups including T Association, Silver Spurs, and Delta Tau Delta. Ronnie Carpenter of Texas A&M also noted as related in the report.

Carol Singers persevere in cold for community event

Nearly 200 people braved cold winds for the second annual Community Carol Sing on Stamford’s square corner, wrapped in heavy coats for about 30 minutes. The Stamford Music Club sponsored the event with Dr. A Haterius delivering the opening address reflecting on Kennedy’s assassination and the season’s call to service.

Bill's Lumber and Supply relocates to 224 FE Hamilton

Bill Jones owner of Bill's Lumber and Supply moves the business to 224 FE Hamilton. The former Cable Vision Co. site at the corner of Hamilton and Wetherbee streets becomes the new location after vacating the Anson Highway address. An expanded line of goods and services will be offered at the new site.

Carhartt Will Expand Stamford Plant December 26

Carhartt of Texas will add a second assembly line at its Stamford factory on December 26. The expansion increases payroll to about 65 to 79 workers and adds 30 to 35 percent more output on the new line producing ladies slacks and skirts while the plant continues blouses. Finished goods are shipped to Dallas for packaging and distribution to retailers.<!--

Christmas Help Sought For 189 Needy In City

City Hall room fills with donated clothing food and gifts for the Christmas Project for the Needy run by the Chamber of Commerce. So far 42 families representing 189 people have applied for aid with delivery set for December 24 by the Stamford Young Farmers Chapter. Donations of cash clothing food or toys are requested through the chamber office this week as more requests are expected and the Goodfellow Fund holds 325 to buy food and children's clothing.

Burial set for J. V. Roach former Stamford resident

Funeral services for J. V. Roach 60 a former Stamford resident will be held Thursday morning at Riverside Baptist Church in Fort Worth. He died Monday. Roach was employed at United Food Store and his wife long served Stamford Memorial Hospital. The couple left Stamford in 1942. Burial will follow in a Fort Worth cemetery. Survivors include his wife and son John Roach of Fort Worth. Stamford acquaintances plan to attend.

Veteran's Children to Be Honored by VFW Auxiliary

Children of veterans are invited to a Christmas party hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9179 on Saturday December 21 from 4 to 5 PM at the post home. Each child should bring a small gift for exchange as gift bags of fruit and nuts will be handed out. VFW Post and Auxiliary members will pack food and sunshine boxes at the post home on Friday night December 20.

Christmas Edition Planned for Dec 24 by Local Paper

The American's Annual Christmas Greeting Edition will publish Monday Dec 23 for Christmas Eve distribution. News copy must arrive by 9 p.m. Monday and ads by 1 p.m. Friday to appear in the special issue featuring letters to Santa Claus and messages from local firms.

Biggest Taxpayer in Jones County Named

A. J. French Jr. reports Humble Oil and Refining Co. pays the most taxes in Jones County, followed by Southwestern Bell Tel Co. West Texas Utilities Co. and Lone Star Gas Co. An Albany individual, A. V. Jones, ranks third for oil production in the Lueders area.
