Blizzards Rally Edges Hirschi For 13 6 Win

More than 4 000 fans watched the Blizzards rally to defeat the Hirschi Huskies 13 6 in a bi district playoff. Winters backfield totaled 117 yards as Austin Raney and Denny Aldridge produced the scoring drives. The win advances the Blizzards, District 6 AA champions, to a regional round opposite the Crane Cranes in Odessa.

Auditorium Upgrade Passes in Stamford District

Stamford Independent School district voters approved 233 to 65 to issue 200000 in improvement bonds for a new auditorium and administration building. The project aims to seat up to 1100 with temporary seating, with bids by Feb 1 and a possible 1964 completion depending on contractor progress. A 30 day protest window follows the canvass.

Autos Tractors SHS Band Will Appear in Parade

The Stamford parade on December 7 will feature 1964 autos and farm machinery with Santa Claus visiting children. Stamford High School marching band will lead the morning line of entries as Christmas lights are turned on. Guerrero Charged With Second Offense in Burglary Case

Pete Guerrero 21 faced new charges after an alleged break in at Bill Ferguson Oil Co following an earlier indictment for a Nov 2 burglary of Western Auto Store on South Swenson Street. He was arrested by Officer R L Barbee as he left the oil company with pennies and a flashlight as evidence. Guerrero had been previously convicted of a 1959 Huston Hardware burglary and was out on a $750 bond on Western Auto charges.

Leon Thurman announces holiday closings for Jones County courthouse. Thanksgiving closes Thursday and Friday, creating a long weekend from Wednesday night to Monday morning. Christmas closes at noon December 24 and reopens December 27 morning.

Farm Labor Day Set for Stamford Event

A Farm Labor Day will be held in Stamford on Monday December 2 1963 from 9 00 a m to 2 00 p m at the Old City Auditorium. Kenneth Carman Farm Placement Representative of the Texas Employment Commission in Anson says the event aims to pair farmers and teachers needing workers with farm and ranch hands seeking jobs. Cay man of the Texas Employment Commission will take worker orders and arrange immediate interviews if employers and workers meet on site. The effort seeks to ensure local workers are used to meet area labor demands.

Front Brings More Rainfall After Two Heavy Showers

Another .2 inches of rain fell as a cold front moved through late Thursday, lifting November totals to 2.62 inches. Month to date rainfall reaches 17.52 inches with an average of 23.22 inches for the period.

Stamford Man Faces Charges in Shooting Incident

Luchius Cecil Grandivan, 21, of Abilene, was shot by James Henry McGee, 24, in northwest Stamford after a dispute over 45 cents for wine. Grandison survived after multiple transfusions. McGee admitted the shooting and is jailed. Two Abilene Nevroes, James Vince and Leonard Lockett, face weapons charges.

Eleventh Time Dec 10 Vote Set On Cotton Quotas

Voters in the December 10 referendum will decide on marketing quotas for the 1964 upland cotton crop marking eleven straight years of such votes. J E B Nix notes quotas have been approved in each prior year. 92.7 percent approved for 1963 quotas. If two thirds approve, price support within 6 to 8 percent parity applies and penalties on excess cotton. If opposed, the allotment program stays with 50 percent parity. All upland cotton producers in 1963 may vote.
