Former students from Stamford Hamlin Anson Roby McCaulley Hamlin Sagerton and Rule met at the Pittman Cafe Anson for a turkey dinner and to elect officers for the C S A Ex-Students Organization Miss Ethel Rowell was chosen president with Miss Mary Emily Allen vice president and Miss Bessie Louise Miers secretary Marie Pope treasurer Ruby Thompson reporter. A committee was named to draft by laws and constitution with twenty seven members present. The group voted to hold its next meeting in Stamford in February.

R A Bible Reappointed as St Johns Steward Board Chair

St John's Methodist church re elected last year's officers at the new board's organization meeting. R A Bible remains chairman with C T Todsen as vice chairman and J A Smith as secretary treasurer. Finance committee will include L W Johnson as chairman, Geo E Pryor and F E Upshaw.

Stamford Office Opened By County Employment Board

The Stamford office of the Jones County Board of Welfare and Employment opened Monday in the rear of the K P building on West McHarg avenue. Mrs Z T Christian is in charge of the office. The board aims to secure work for the unemployed and assist those unable to work this winter. Several projects are being considered with details to be announced once plans are finalized.

Beer sales near Stamford city limits boost drunkenness arrests

Arrests for drunkenness in Stamford have risen nearly twentyfold since beer began selling near the city limits about three months ago. From January 1, 1929, to September 1, 1933, the city court logged 48 drunkenness charges. in the past three months 46 arrests were recorded. Judge R. C. Thomas and Police Chief G. G. Flournoy link the rise largely to beer joints just outside the city.

Beaman Addresses Exchange Club On Thanksgiving

Churches Hold City Thanksgiving Union Service

City churches unite for a community Thanksgiving service at First Baptist Church at 7 30 p m on Wednesday. Rev C R Hooton leads the choir and Rev Robert O Beaman delivers the sermon on the twenty third Psalm with other Stamford ministers contributing. An offering for the poor is taken.

Rotary Governor Visits Stamford Rotary Club on Tuesday

O. B. Sellers of Fort Worth, governor of the 41st District, Rotary International, made an official visit to the Stamford Rotary Club. He conferred with officers and committee chairs at the Stamford Inn from 11 a.m. to noon and addressed the luncheon. Mrs. Sellers accompanied him, waiting in the car during duties. He then went to Breckenridge for a club visit and met Hamlin Rotarians Wednesday noon.

Early settler W M Schoenerstedt dies at 89

W M Schoenerstedt, 89, longtime Jones county resident, died after a Sunday stroke at his home three miles southwest of Stamford. Funeral held Tuesday at 2:30 pm at his home with Rev. A H Muehlbrad and Rev. M B Harris officiating. Interment in Highland cemetery. Survived by son Fred of Stamford and daughters Mrs Paul Roeber, Mrs Charles Nearing, and Miss Ida Schoenerstedt.

Driver Falls Under Truck on Farm Run

F W Reeves aged 24 was injured when the Ford T truck he was driving ran over his right leg, causing a compound fracture. The incident occurred one mile from Rotan as he headed to his farm eight miles southwest. Reeves was taken to the sanitarium for treatment arriving around 8 PM, a motorist having rushed him to hospital.

Pastor Rev J H Skiles Takes Rural Baptist Posts

Rev J H Skiles becomes pastor of New Hope Baptist Church and Fairview Baptist Church in Fort Worth area dividing time between them. He began at New Hope November 19, preaching first and third Sundays and the preceding Saturdays. At Fairview services shift to second and fourth Sundays with morning and evening services.

Co-Op Taking Cotton For Ten Cent Loans

J. F. Pool, manager for the West Texas Cotton Growers Association at Stamford, says the WTCG is taking shipments of cotton on the ten cent government loan and expects to be active all season. The association buys outright or ships in the call pool while classing and valuing cotton for the government on each bale.
