HSU Chancellor to Preach at First Baptist Stamford

Harden-Simmons University Chancellor Dr. Elwin L. Skiles will preach both services Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Stamford. Ed Jackson of HSU admissions led a Bible study Wednesday night and will lead another study next Wednesday. Interim pastor Larry Armentrout is on vacation.

Puppets and speakers highlight Liberty Christian Sunday service

Liberty Christian Fellowship at 619 E. Hamilton hosts a 10 am Sunday service headlined by a musical Agape Friends puppet show from Denton featuring a Western Theatre Medley. Stenholm Friday Festivities Set for Stamford Picnic Grounds

Stamford residents invited to the Second Annual Friday Festivities on Sept 6 at Bricksdahl Picnic Grounds. Congressman Charles Stenholm and family will attend. event features fried chicken, live entertainment, and a ticket price of 10 dollars. Proceeds support Friends of Charlie and the Stenholm '80 Committee. In bad weather, events move to Ericksdahl Lutheran Church.

Fort Worth firm Freese and Nichols selected as engineering consultant for Stamford Water Filter Plant renovation. Council approves mobile home relocation for Patricia Baez residence and demolition at 403 South McMillian, with HUD funding and a $4,000 down payment. Plant capacity upgrade aims to meet peak summer demand of 3,000,000 gallons, design and funding plans due after contract approval, with bids 6 months later and project completion in 18 months.

Thunderstorms Bring Heavy Rain to Stamford Marks Heatwave End

A late afternoon storm dumped 1.80 inches in Stamford on Sunday, boosting August total to 2.12 inches and signaling the end of a long heatwave. Stamford logged 42 straight 100 degree days, with a peak 114 degrees on June 28, and has 9.75 inches of rain this year through August, five inches below the normal 15.72.

Reynolds Elementary School announces grade four six supply lists

Allen Norman principal of Reynolds Elementary School released the supply lists for grades four six. Fourth graders need notebook paper pencils crayons scissors glue and erasers, two folders, two spirals, Kleenex, and markers. Fifth graders require pens rulers erasers folders gluestick markers scissors file folders contact paper construction paper stenographer notebook and more. Sixth graders list seven pocket folders, pencils, Manila and construction paper, notebook paper, a theme binder, a ruler, crayons, and map colors.

Stamford Public Schools released early turn-out days for 1980 81 with 2:30 p.m. dismissals on four holidays Thanksgiving Nov 26 Christmas Dec 19 spring break March 13 and Easter Apr 16. Two Friday early dismissals for out of town football games Oct 3 Graham and Nov 1 Colorado City. Test days Dec 18 19 and May 28 29 dismissal at 2:30 p.m.

Hardin-Simmons Grad Named Editor Of Stamford American

Greg Jaklewicz an August graduate of Hardin-Simmons University has been named editor of the Stamford American by publisher Dorothy Craig. A mass communications major with a political science minor he is a 1976 Wylie High School graduate native to California. He led HSU The Brand as editor his senior year after three years as sports editor and earned six TIPA awards. He worked on the university yearbook and held several student group posts while also writing for the Abilene Reporter-News and serving as assistant sports information director. His parents live in Abilene.

Lubbock USDA hearing on alcohol fuels loans set
