First Bale Ginned Near Stamford in 1958 Cotton Crop
Frank Vasek, farmer south of Stamford, brought the first bale of the 1958 crop to Stamford on August 18. The bale weighed 452 pounds lint from 2040 pounds seed cotton, grown about six miles south on L. W. Woodson’s home place, planted May 7. Vasek also delivered the second and third bales the next day. more bales are expected to arrive in coming weeks as the crop progresses.

Bert B. Peters 71 of the Tuxedo area died Wednesday of lung cancer in Houston. He was born September 7, 1886, married Et ta Jush in 1907, and lived as a farmer and ranch worker in Stamford and Stonewall County. Funeral services were held Friday at Kinney Funeral Chapel with burial in Fairview cemetery. he is survived by two sons, a sister, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

In Dallas a five year old Stamford boy, Selig Feldt, lost his leg to bone cancer after surgery at Baylor Hospital. His parents and grandmother stay at his side as doctors warned treatment could not help, and the family plans to cope with his future prosthetic options.
