W L Poochey McDonald won district clerk and Roy Thorn defeated the incumbent in county clerk race in the second Democratic primary. McDonald 1253 to 918 over W O McGinnis. Thorn 1314 to 875 over Gene Spur gin Jr. Hamilton led Smith 1352 to 515 in the Supreme Court Place 1 race. Stamford totals shown with split precinct results. Stamford plans Christmas opening day for Saturday November 29 with no street parade. A retail committee headed by David Gough will allocate at least 250 for new equipment and lights, while limiting on the ground units. The Santa Claus house reopens for candy distribution with an age limit for recipients. Funds of around 800 are sought from merchants. Frank Cannon chairs a five-section fund drive plan. Last year four new light strands cost over 120 and more lights are to be added each year.

Fuel Tank From B-47 Bomber Drops On Farm Near Stamford
A 1700 gallon fuel tank from a B-47 bomber fell on a cotton field on the Dude and J W Apperson farm about ten miles west of Stamford injuring no one as workers were absent due to wet ground. Eyewitnesses Dude Apperson and Earl Keese reported hearing a plane then seeing the tank descend from above the clouds. Dyess AFB Abilene officials confirmed the tank came from a B-47 on a mission and that the aircraft was not seen.

Lightning damaged television sets and wiring, knocked out telephone service, and caused fear across the area during storms Saturday night. A building on Eben Shquist farm near Bethel Lutheran Church burned, with minor overall damage reported. Rainfall varied from half an inch to over two inches in nearby areas, flooding streets in Stamford and forcing travelers to halt on highways.

Carolyn Cooper Crowned 1958 Wheatheart in Perryton
Carolyn Cooper 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Cooper of Plainview, was crowned Wheatheart at Perryton beauty contest. She was chosen over 17 contestants and will appear at the Canadian National Exposition in Toronto. The Cooper family had lived in Samford before moving to Plainview.
