Sgt. Billy R. Wise son of Mr and Mrs L R Wise of this city has been in England 18 months with an Air Supply Squadron. He entered the army July 1941 trained at Chanute Field and stationed in Georgia and Charleston before going to Bone. He is 20. Wise wrote of an encounter where an English girl on a bicycle ran into him. She spilled and he helped her but she worried about her hose. Months later Mrs Wise gave a ride to English trainees in Miami Oklahoma and learned the girl was the sister of one in the group.

Cadet Killed in Plane Crash on C R Taylor Farm
Aviation Cadet John M Kissinger, an upperclassman at Stannord Flying school, died instantly Monday when his solo plane crashed on the C R Taylor farm four miles southwest of Stamford. Lieut James De Bellevue reported the death and Kinney Funeral Home prepared the body for burial. Kissinger, 20, son of Milwaukee couple, entered service in 1942 after graduating Shorewood High in 1940 and working as a radio announcer. His military escort was Cadet John F Kinsman. He would have been 21 in September.

The first bale grown by W. M. Davis of Berryhill near Stamford was ginned August 16 by C. A. Douthit. It weighed 2100 pounds with 517 pounds lint, graded strict middling with 7-8 inch staple, at 19 cents a pound. Seed sold for $21.84, ginning and wrapping donated. Ginning season to begin in about two weeks. 1943 start is nine days earlier than 1942.

Mrs Bird Early Resident Dies at 83 in Texas
Mrs Aureilla Beatrice Bird aged 83 died Sunday night at her home after a stroke on August 10. Funeral held Monday at Kinney Chapel with Rev S H Young officiating. She and her husband L R Bird lived in Jones County since 1907 and are buried at Highland cemetery. Survived by four sons, one daughter, stepchildren, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. two sisters. Pallbearers listed.
