Cotton Ginning Progress in Jones County Ahead of Expectation
In Stamford area, about a hundred bales of cotton have been ginned since August 16 with steady activity expected next week. Mrs Jno Vahlenkamp of Stonewall county died at Stamford Sanitarium on Sunday at 10 35 a m after a week in hospital. Funeral held at St Pauls Lutheran Lagerton with Rev F Bracher and burial in Old Brenneberg cemetery. Born in Germany March 20 1872 she came to the United States as a girl. Survived by husband two sons August and Willie H Vahlenkamp of Old Glory two brothers John and Herman Niemeyer of La Grange a half brother Fritz Niemeyer and a step brother Luebbe Morisse of La Grange and seven grandchildren.

Cotton loan rate in Jones County rises to 19.89 cents
Jones County farmers will receive higher loan rates on this year’s cotton at 19.89 cents per pound based on 90 percent of parity as of August 1, up from 17.75 cents last year. Loans are offered by CCC or approved lenders, with 3 percent interest and July 31 1944 maturity, usable until May 1 1944. Clerks to assist with loan papers are being appointed.

Jones County home demonstration clubs were represented at the Texas Home Demonstration Association meeting in Dallas August 17 to 19. The Stamford Flying School hosts the first open variety show in mid-summer at the enlarged recreation hall. A screening of The Road to Morocco accompanied by the cadet orchestra and performances by Aviation Thompson and a singing trio energized the crowd.
