C L Carlton a prominent Jones county farmer died at the Stamford Sanitarium Wednesday night after six months of declining health. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Claudine Lawrence Carlton and three sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren. Stamford saw rainfall totaling 1.41 inches over Tuesday and Wednesday with additional showers continuing into Thursday. telephones and electrical disturbances occurred during the storms.

A party of about 100 Scurry County Rodeo Boosters visited Stamford Tuesday just before lunch. They were welcomed by Mayor R. C. Thomas and Stamford residents. After lunch, a 20 minute program with music and talks followed, featuring Ray Dickson of the Snyder Chamber of Commerce as one of the speakers.

McGregor Family Moves Closer to Texas Tech in Plains Area
Mr and Mrs J F McGregor sold their Stamford area farm home two and a half miles east of Stamford to Judge B P Davenport and bought a farm near Idalou. They left Wednesday for the new home, praising the rainfall and noting the move keeps children near Texas Tech for schooling as they finish high school. The McGregors have long helped develop the county, with Mr McGregor’s father arriving in 1902.

Work Starts on REA Lines Next Week

Early Resident Margaret Johnson Dies of Heart Attack
Margaret Johnson a longtime resident of this section since 1892 died of a heart attack at her home three miles south of Tuxedo Monday afternoon about 5 30. She was found by her son Warren Johnson who lives in the same neighborhood. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Fairview church with burial in Fairview cemetery. Kinney Funeral Home directed. Survivors include three daughters two brothers three sisters and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were J F McCulloch Dave Glenn E G Hatt ox Lee White J C Harwell and Rob Johnson.

Freak storm tears through new city hangar damaging plane
A brief Monday afternoon twister wrecked a newly completed hangar north of the city, blowing off the roof and collapsing rafters. A wing was crushed as a plane inside was struck, several cars in the hangar escaped damage, and port manager H R Harwell narrowly avoided injury. Nearby a landing-field plane and a service station were spared. A tree at Mrs. R H Dobyns home was splintered by lightning and a radio burned out.
