In Wink City near Breckenridge and Palo Pinto three automobiles crashed at Highway No 1 and No 1 A injuring four Stamford residents and two or three others. J H Kinney and wife and son George plus nephew Fred Kinney suffered injuries. Mr Kinney blamed the Ford driver. Damages to Kinney car about 1000 dollars. cars included a 2100 dollar Studebaker President, a Model T Ford, and a Chrysler.

First Cotton Bale Ginned Early In Stamford
The first bale of cotton was ginned in Stamford on Thursday morning nearly a month earlier than last year. It was grown by Mrs. E. M. Douthit of Lueders and ginned at the C. A. Douthit gin. Fred Taylor, cotton weigher, will present a premium to Mrs. Douthit and the bale will be sold to the highest bidder. Mrs. Douthit is mother to C. A. Douthit of Stamford. Last year the first bale arrived on September 3.

Stamford Soldiers Shine at Camp Good Showing
The Texas National Guard encampment in Palacios opens August 4 for a two week field training period with 6200 in attendance the largest since the camp began four years ago. Stamford’s Company K of the 142nd Infantry shows strong morale and equipment though many have under four months training.

Fire destroys Hood country home near city limits
The E. O. Hood residence one mile east of the city was destroyed by fire on Monday with an estimated loss of 12000 dollars. Only 5000 dollars of insurance was carried, covering 4000 on the house and 1000 on the furniture. The Hoods now live in the Rio Grande Valley and had rented the home furnished to Otis Hanner and Gas Company employees. The origin is unknown and the building lay beyond the city mains, but the department saved the barn and outbuildings by piping from the nearby Country Club lake which was pumped dry, reducing water hazards to the golf course.

The Northwest Texas Luther League met at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Sagerton on July 27 28 with Leagues from Winters Wichita Falls Post Slaton Wilson and Lockney joining Sagerton. Edwin Boedeker was reelected president and Rev E A Sagebiel delivered sermons as crowds of 1000 to 1500 attended under a large tent enjoying an ice cream social and various League programs including music by the Sagerton Orchestra.

New Road District Formed to Pave Highway 30 in Haskell
The Haskell County Commissioners Court created Road District No. 3 August 1 to cover Highway 30. A citizens committee prompted the move to issue bonds for paving the thirty mile north south highway. If approved, bonds will fund hard-surfacing from Wichita Falls to Abilene and connect Texas cities.

Albany Infant Dies Here
John Jr infant son of Mr and Mrs John Arthur of Albany died here Tuesday morning. Kinney Furniture and Undertaking Company prepared for burial and the funeral was held in Albany Tuesday afternoon. Rev F A Sagebiel president of the Texas Synod stated he would attend if another Convention is held at Sagerton. A brief meeting Sunday evening decided to meet at Wilson for the 1930 convention.
