New Hope Homecoming draws large Stamford crowd
A large crowd attended the 1981 New Hope community homecoming at the Lions Club building in Stamford. Officers were re-elected for another year: W. T. Goree president, Louise Seay Bronson secretary, Cecil Bean treasurer, and Mrs Cecil Bean reporter and food chairperson. The group will meet at the V.L.P. Community Center in 1982 for more seating. Goree and Bean were asked to pursue a concrete walk to the Historical Community Marker, and a fence around the marker was approved. The marker at New Hope Baptist Churchyard was honored, and fourteen gifts were awarded in a drawing.

Three Jones County girls competed at the Bi- District 4-H Fashion Revue at the Abilene Civic Center. In Senior Division Emily Olson was named as alternates for state competition Dana Burgess' place. Ursula Richards won a blue ribbon in the intermediate division and had previously won the overall intermediate class. In Junior Division Lisa Haley earned a blue ribbon and had won her county Dress Revue. Gary Stanford praised the girls and wished Emily luck at State.

Stamford hosts Mission Vacation Bible School at Solomon Temple Baptist Church starting Monday through Friday August 15. Aimed at children who do not attend Sunday School regularly, it teaches creation sin and salvation through Jesus Christ without church doctrine. Classes for ages four through seven grade begin with a 9 am procession and run to 11. A picnic is planned August 15 and details will follow. Public is invited to attend.
