Stamford City Council sets 20 mph safety zone near school
At a July regular meeting Stamford City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance establishing a 20 mph speed limit near Stamford Christian Academy on Campbell and Anson streets. Fines range from ten to fifty dollars. The council accepted City Manager Ken Roberson’s resignation as he moves to Midland to join Chevron. Also approved were MH/MR Center board appointees John McGaughey Rev Ron Holloman and Mrs Oliver Reed. A HUD project for Wendeborn Park pool upgrades Washington Park improvements and a new chain link fence were proposed at an estimated 60000 and deferred to Aug 3.

Stamford Chamber of Commerce Air Show draws crowd and 31 aircraft
The Stamford Chamber of Commerce air show last Sunday drew about 1500 spectators with 31 aircraft. Free rides were offered before the show, and pilots from Tumbleweed Air Show performed in multiple acts including a beer bottle loop. Civic groups provided support from traffic control to security and parking.

Stamford Memorial Hospital announces Dr. Jorge F. Torres M D will join Stamford Clinic for about 10 days starting August 10 to gain familiarity with the area. A 55 year old Texas, Florida and Illinois licensed OB GYN, he plans to practice OB surgery and general family medicine, living in Libertyville with his family.
