Fire destroys home on North Berthelot in Stamford

Mid afternoon blaze total loss at the home of Rachel Marsh 311 North Berthelot after grandchildren ignite a paper bag with a candle while making mud pies. Stamford Fire Department with four volunteers battled the flames for 15 minutes as three fires occurred within seven minutes. Grass fires at 208 South Berthelot and near the former Stamford Cotton Oil Mill were quickly controlled with no damage. Fire chief Bill Lawson notes equipment and volunteers including Ron Holloman Kenneth Marr Garland Gilbreath and Ricky Lee assisted.

Stamford County Line board approves 1981 82 budget and cafeteria hikes

The Stamford County Line Independent School Board approved a tentative 1981 82 budget of 1 665 216 after trimming over 100 000 from initial figures to avert a tax rise. The district's deficit dropped from 120 229 to 14 000, funded by the fund balance. Cafeteria prices rise to restore profitability, with meals and milk increasing across breakfast and lunch categories. Stam ford High welcomes 43 players under new head coach Gary Wilhelm as fall two a days begin this week. Jones County brand re registration set for Aug 30

Jones County re registers all cattle brands starting August 30 and running to March 2, 1982, per County Clerk Buryl Rye.
