Sunday School attendance at the First Baptist church rose to 501 for the morning Bible School. Rev. Sam Morris, pastor, delivered multiple sermons and appeared on a Sunday afternoon radio program on Sunshine station. Special music featured the orchestra under Joe Meacham and Mrs. W. F. Robbins with Ruby Phenix. Three members joined, a special rededication occurred, and broadcasts included a varied lineup throughout the day. The Sunshine station schedules 1420 kc with multiple daily airings. Representatives from thirteen states attended the opening day of the Bible School session. Rev. Morris spoke from Fort Worth Tuesday evening over the Southwest Broadcast chain.

Building of roads resumes in precinct 2 gravel effort
A 35 man crew resumed Monday work on the lateral road system in precinct No 2 between Lueders and the Swedish settlement. Gravelling starts 51? miles northeast of Lueders toward the Swenson School, joining last year’s gravel near Stamford pump station on Highway 18. Ten miles remain to be gravelled with completion expected in months. F. M. Locke, county commissioner for this precinct, oversees the project.

An extensive program funded by F C AID advances graveling of a three-fourth mile road section from Highway 30 to the Stamford Cotton Oil Mill with about forty workers. The RFC rule changes limit use of wagons and teams, halting street traveling after prior graveling of 25 blocks. Other improvements include drainage work near Vassar Street and Yale Street, new dips at Rotan and McKinley, drainage ditches in the gin area, water line lowering between Avoca and Lueders, and enhancements at Harmon Park and the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds.

The home of B E Griggs nightwatchman, located in Stamford, was severely damaged by a blaze that began about 1 30 a m Sunday from an unknown cause. Firemen had the flames quickly, but most furnishings were a total loss. The insured values stood at 1900 for the house and 1200 for the furniture.

Fire in Barber Shop Flue Sparks Brief Blaze
A spontaneous ignition of soot in a flue at the City Barber Shop caused excitement in the business district at 2:35 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters extinguished the small blaze with no damage reported. The flue had not been used for several years.

Fire Starts in Refrigerator Car Along Wichi ta Valley Tracks
A refrigerator car on the Wichi ta Valley tracks was badly damaged by fire early Thursday morning. The alarm came in at 5 30 a m but the blaze progressed too rapidly for chemical extinguishing. An engine moved the burning car to a water plug on South Swenson where firefighters doused it. The fire started from a fire built inside the car by a tramp who slept there.
