Stamford Boy Killed in Auto Accident Sunday Funeral Held
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Matilda Lunn Monday after noon at the Lunn home and Swedish Lutheran church east of Stamford. Rev. Haterius conducted the bilingual service with hymns, solos, and a burial in the local cemetery. Mrs Lunn, born March 13 1885 in Sweden, died April 23 after influenza developed pneumonia. She leaves husband John Lunn two sons Linus and Carl five daughters and extended family. Kinney Funeral Home of Stamford handled arrangements.

A house at 702 North Swenson street once owned by Ed Gray was destroyed by fire late Wednesday night. Night watchman B E Griggs discovered the blaze at 1 am and reported it after investigating, but the house was a total loss with no occupants and the cause undetermined.

George Jackson Smith Jr. age 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Smith, died at Stamford Sanitarium after a Sunday crash on the Sagerton highway nine miles northwest of Stamford at 5 45 p m. Four others were injured including Miss Jeffy Smith and Miss Willie Marie Lyons.

Funeral services for George Jackson Smith Jr. age 12, of Stamford, were held Monday at 5 p.m. in the First Baptist Church. He died Sunday evening from injuries when the bicycle he rode toppled two miles east of Sagerton. Born February 8, 1921 in Stamford, he was a fifth grade student and a Boy Scout with troop 42. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Kinney Funeral Home arranged, Rev. Sam Morris and Rev. C R Hooton officiated, with mixed church choir. He is survived by his parents, one sister Bobbie Lou, and grandparents J S Smith and Mrs W T McCulloch. Out-of-town mourners included Cone Smith and Wilmont Smith of Cleburne and A S Smith and Lena Wilson of Walnut Springs.

Papers of the late Frank Hastings, noted range authority and writer, received by the University of Texas Library as a gift from the Swenson Land and Cattle Company of Stamford. Hastings managed Swenson ranches 1902 to 1922. The collection includes thousands of letters and ranch diaries detailing Texas range history, farming settlement, and cattle improvements. The Swenson family, founded by S. M.
