Death on the Loreto Mainline The Peterson Tragedy
John Peterson a 70 year old renowned Chicago blacksmith was killed instantly when a southbound freight struck him at Loreto on Wednesday morning He was walking from Chicago toward Loreto and stepped from the side track onto the main line as the train rounded a curve The engineer had no time to react and the cause is believed to be mistaken location by Peterson The coroner ruled accidental death The body was taken to Chicago for burial where funeral services were held and interment made in Bardstown The jury listed as witnesses Jas A Mudd Forest Wars W L Thompson Rop Adams Jas A Beard and Grover Gardiner The decedent was brother to Mrs Mary Jane Blair and uncle to Deputy Sheriff Nat Blair He had no surviving wife or children and was twice married The verdict noted sept 10 1907 as the accident date
