Last Monday County Court day drew a large Democratic crowd in Louisville as Judge Jas P Gregory and ex-Congressman David H Smith spoke at the Court House. T Scott Mayes presided, introducing speakers who attacked Republican candidate Vic Caddie and praised Bryan. Gregory urged Johnson’s reelection, defended bank deposit guarantees, and supported direct election of U S Senators. Smith assailed the tariff, political corruption, and vote buying, drawing wide applause. Both speakers predicted Bryan’s presidency after March 4 1909.

Circuit Court Convenes Under Judge Thurman Charge
Circuit Court convened with Judge J H Thurman presiding and the grand jury panel. He urged indictments for justified evidence and urged stricter handling of lesser offenses to curb greater crimes, condemning night riding and outlining liquor and statute offenses.
