Country Goes Republican in Victory for Taft and Sherman

William Jennings Bryan lost the presidency amid a large Taft Sherman win in the electoral college. Taft holds 298 votes with a 56 vote margin to clinch the election, while New York backed Taft over Bryan. Nebraska also goes Republican. Hughes wins New York governor, Harmon likely wins in Ohio, and Patterson prevails in Tennessee.

Kentucky yesterday gave Bryan a large majority of 15 000 and the Democrats gained one Congressman as R Y Thomas defeated Dr A D James in the third district. The ninth and tenth districts remain doubtful with Republican chances favored. Hon Swagar Sherley won his Louisville race by over 20 000 votes.

Throat Cut Leaves Goode Wounded Near Town

Henry Goode of L. A. Burns farm near town sustained a deep throat wound in an election quarrel with Johnnie Green. Goode’s cut narrowly missed the jugular. Green was arrested after the altercation. Dr Hyatt treated Goode and declared him out of danger.

A Fine Mule from Taylor County Enquirer

Mr. T William Simms of Springfield recounted a tale of the best weanling and yearling mule in the county. He bought a weanling mare mule for 138 dollars, later sold the yearling for 250 dollars to Judge Thurman, a move turned into a strong investment. Simms and Thurman also bought a second weanling mule from the same dam for 150 dollars, which never lost at county fairs. Simms returned to Springfield Saturday night.

Neck Broken Youth Dies After Fall From Train Near Bondville

Clay Cornelius of Harrodsburg is found dead under a trestle near Bondville after a fall from a Louisville Southern passenger train. The 21 year old, said to be intoxicated, traveled to Lawrenceburg for whiskey and returned on the 8:10 train. Bottles of liquor are scattered near the scene. Coroner Gibbs holds an inquest and the verdict cites the fall as cause of death. He is survived by his mother, a divorcee wife, and several siblings. Funeral services were held at his mother's home and he is buried at Spring Hill cemetery.
