The Sun questions the authorship of an editorial with initials E L D. and advocates a deeper probe into political dealings around Gore Bosley nominations, local option debates, and alleged bearing false witness claims amid editorials and a long defense of community issues in Washington county.
The Elizabethtown News reports L and N Railway executives consider building a nine mile line from Aliceton on the K D and Springfield on the Bardstown Branch to reach Louisville fifteen miles shorter via Bardstown division. If built, Springfiell and Bardstown stand to gain while Lebanon and Lebanon Junction face losses as Lebanon Junction to Greensburg line becomes limited.
A mass meeting will be held at the graded school Friday at 3 30 PM to organize a literary society. Past experiences show the city’s societies succeed, and renewed interest promises a strong fall formation. Members with prior society ties know the benefits of studying great writers and social dialogue. The event invites broad attendance this afternoon.
C W Epperson a respected Springfield resident died at his home Thursday morning at 2 oclock from pneumonia at age sixty three. A Clark county native who moved from Jessamine county five years ago he was married to Mrs Ellen Foster and is survived by his wife and son J F Epperson of Pleasant Run. Funeral services were held Friday at the Christian church conducted by Eld W F Rogers with burial in the city cemetery. He was regarded as an upright citizen by the community.
The Springfield circuit court adjourned after a week of civil and criminal dispositions. The grand jury returned 18 indictments. Notable verdicts include Hattie Young fined 50 for malicious cutting Thornbury jailed two years for purse theft. Co-defendant bailed and vanished. Jack Lewis received three years for housebreaking at Singleton Davison restaurant.
Master Dudley Ragsdale, who won a Page seat in the last Legislature, again seeks the honor. His past service is praised as efficient and his manliness and duty earned him the respect of every legislator.
A lengthy Springfield Baptist church meeting led by Rev. William H Williams has drawn strong attendance. Since it began weeks ago there have been thirty four stone s to the church, twenty two baptisms and twelve by letter. Williams continues preaching alone after failing to hire an evangelist as the event continues for several days.
The Sun notes two weddings: Charley Gibson of Sharpsville and Lettie Ann Jenkins wed Sunday at 8 then travel to Louisville. Lloyd Lay and Lola Gardner wed Sunday at 3:30 at E. M. Royalty’s home with Rev. Mason officiating.
