A 19th century column argues Democrats governed Washington County since 1897 and praises sheriff revenue efforts while urging party unity. It questions Republican motives and favors nominating a full Democratic ticket, claiming accountability rests with the Democratic administration.
Last Friday Tom Stevens dressed for a wedding and rode to the West Point school house with Miss Neva Pelly, a pupil, seized his suit, and fled to Parksville. They bought tickets for Jellico, planning to wed there, and set out on their elopement, with Stevens claiming to have learned from the venture.
A sixteen year old white boy was sentenced to four years for breaking into and robbing Mrs. Cummins's north county home. Judge Bell suspended the sentence and sent him to the Lexington Reform School. A sixteen year old black boy received four years for a pistol incident at Salt River. his youth led to a suspended sentence and reform school placement. Plans were announced for a twelve story Lincoln Savings Bank building at Fourth Avenue and Market Street Louisville to be completed in eighteen months. Mr. Ben Mellroy and family visited Willisburg over the weekend. Maud Inman and Eva Inman spent Sunday with Mayme Merritt. Flossie and Pearlie Armstrong visited Tatham Springs. William Best and family from Wayside visited Sutherland brothers. J B Denton of Grayson County and J J Baker of Indiana returned home after eight weeks here. Rufus Showmaker sold a horse for 60 dollars. Sam Montgomery and wife spent Sunday with Lade Coulter and wife. Larkin Dean and son Creath visited Tatham Springs. J M Shields and wife were called to aid grandson Claude Ruby, ill with bronchitis.
Secretary Loeb and Secret Service Agent E B McAdams clashed in a public dispute during President Roosevelt's Birmingham visit. As the president started to enter a parade carriage, McAdams reportedly shoved Loeb aside, drawing a punch from Loeb and a retaliatory kick from McAdams before bystanders intervened amid explanations.
The document reproduces a 1904 Washington County Democratic primary call and oath. It states a caucus was held at T. S. es office to choose nominees for county offices on August 6, 1904, with parties pledging Democratic youths who can vote in November 1905 to support the nominees. It condemns Republicans asking Democrats to break pledges and argues victors and losers would respect the primary outcome.

Sam Sweeney of Woodlawn visited his parents.
Taxpayers must pay 1905 county and state taxes at once or face penalties after December 1 and potential sale of property. Official remarks from Byron Crooke and W. C. Foln warn owed back taxes, business must be settled before term ends January 1, and notices mention stray livestock and local inquiries in Springfield and surrounding areas.
Washington county notes the death of J B Ensor at 79 from Brights disease after a two year illness. A devout Hardin Creek Baptist member and charitable local figure, he leaves a widow and nine children including J C Ensor of Ensor Boblitt Brown. Funeral services were held Monday at Springfield Baptist church with Rev R L Purdom.
Mrs Mattie Shelburne, daughter of J A McBrayer Sr, learned last Saturday in Frankfort that a hobo was arrested there and a watch bearing her name was found on the suspect. She traced the loss to a window left open and a door unbolted during a street fair visit, recalling a gold watch given by her father in 1895 vanished from her home.

In the current Circuit Court term only a handful of Commonwealth cases were resolved. The petit jury was dismissed after four days without a civil trial. Disposed cases include G. K. Mitchell for breach of peace with $10 and cost, Louisville and Nashville Railroad for whistle at crossing at $100, Washington County Telephone for failing to file with the Secretary of State at 3190, Hayden Cooper breach of peace $10 and cost, A. J. Moore disturbing religious worship dismissed, Olliver Gribbens carrying a concealed deadly weapon $75 and ten days, John Riley breach of peace $10 and cost, John Cheatham public nuisance $50, Dick Richards carrying a concealed weapon $60 and ten days, Calvin Baker concealed weapon $25 and ten days, Henry Smithers liquor sale to minor $50 each, Murry Shields cutting in sudden affray $50.
Dr. R Robards spent Saturday in Lebanon. Miss Effie Kimberlin visited her sister Mrs Net Campbell near Spring. Mrs Malissa Green visited friends in the county. Mr Jobs Intoan and Miss Cora Whitlock were married at Rev Josie Petersons home, with her brother Mr Charlie Brady as a guest near Springfield.
Mrs J F Keene and daughter Mins McIntire hosted visitors last week. Rev W H Brengle and wife from Elizabethtown were guests of relatives. Mr and Mrs E H Adama of La Tetta visited brother C M Brengle. Jack Johnson entertained his sister and family from Davis County. Flora Hatchett of Pleasant Rain stayed with Flora and Susie Keene. Mrs Manervy Hickerson and daughter from Mead County visited. R A Ensor of Mead and Mrs Leathers of Anderson were here for the illness and death of their father J B Ensor. L E Ballard sold a two-year-old mare for 100 dollars to Line McIntire. Jackie Wayne and Noble Wayne of Lebanon attended Mr Ensor’s funeral. Twiman Keene lost a valuable filly bought at last court day. Marion Cecil and J L Mudd were in Frederickstown Sunday. The bride, Seeneee young, is a young woman of unusual beauty. Congratulations from many friends.
