Capt. Van B. Tyler of Frederickstown attempted suicide by taking laudanum at 5 p.m. yesterday. Frank Hamilton pumped the poison from his stomach. Tyler survived and said he loved his wife, whose death weeks earlier may have influenced his actions.
A Friday game at the High School park matched Springfield Rocks and Graded High School with Colvin’s spit ball stalling the Rocks until the seventh inning when an error sealed a 1-0 defeat. Colvin Robertson Lambert Tony were standout in pitching and catching as Graves McElroy Jones Simms anchored the field.

Herbert V. Croker, son of Richard Croker of New York, was found dead in a train seat near Kansas City. Death suspected from a drug, a Black man placed him on the train at Kansas City and jumped off as it departed. Croker had been at the Elm Ridge races. The Sun subscription is one dollar yearly.

The Washington County Sunday School Association held its annual convention last Saturday despite rain and low attendance. Grigsby was reelected president and Mrs Crooke secretary, with W A Waters elected vice president. Mr Sweeney born and reared at Mackville died suddenly at Samuels Kentucky on Sunday of heart disease. His remains were brought to Springfield and taken to Mackville Monday for interment. He was about sixty six years old and was unmarried. He was well known in the Mackville section with many friends.
A buzzard wearing a bell was spotted in this vicinity last week. The bell’s tinkling could be distinctly heard as the bird flapped its wings. It is said to visit this part of the county frequently.

The new route would extend from Springfield covering No 9 precincts, Frederickstown, and areas along Bardstown Pike, Loretto pike, Cecilville, Gasburg, Louis Lansbury area, and St Rose Lebanon pikes. Mr Smith supports the plan and will recommend establishment of Route No 5 after committee review.
A Missouri letter writer reflects on Kentucky memories from Pottsville to Washington County and notes stock prices in Missouri auctions. He lists prices for a twelve year old horse, a one yearling, cattle and sheep, and observes stock values as high this spring. He signs as a Bryan Democrat hoping The Sun reaches all homes in Old Washington.
Preston Taylor, once sent to the penitentiary from Nelson county for horsestealing, was arrested as he left the prison. He was brought here and lodged in jail on an indictment charging him with housebreaking.
