Bullet in Heart Ends Man's Life Near Springfield
Last week readers heard of a failed laudanum attempt. Captain Van B Tyler, a Confederate veteran, died by self inflected pistol shot in a barn on Mr Wallace Seay's farm seven miles from Springfield. The death followed premeditated actions, with a note addressed to his daughter Lucy Tyler. The incident linked to mental strain and remorse after his wife’s death from suicide. An inquest returned a verdict consistent with death by own action. The report also notes a theater show Lights of Gotham with four vaudeville acts and pricing at 25c to 50c at the Red Cross Drug Store.
