Edmund L. Davison Dies in Louisville at 84
Edmund L. Davison, a prominent Springfield native turned Louisville broker and political figure, died at his home in Louisville on Friday morning June 7 1907 aged eighty four. He left a lengthy career including Civil War ventures stage lines mule and hog dealings and a wartime pork speculation loss. He helped found a live stock insurance venture and served briefly as a judge ally to Hayes. He was twice married and had surviving children E L Davison editor of The News Leader and M S Davison of Louisville.

Lightning Strikes Mare and Colt in St Rose Neighborhood
A mare and her colt owned by J. E. Smith of St Rose were killed by lightning Sunday near noon. They were under a sugar tree that split into splinters as the bolt struck. The pair were valued at 300 dollars.

Motorist Fined for Excessive Speed at School Tournament
Joe Hert of Columbia pleaded guilty to speeding within town limits by over six miles an hour during the Blue Grass Graded School Tournament. He was fined $10. The excess speed caused L. M. Walker’s horse to bolt, injuring the horse and destroying the buggy, with a civil suit pending for $600.

Death of Mr Dowling in Blanford neighborhood
Mr Francis X Dowling aged 81 died at his home Monday morning at 3 o'clock after a long illness. A lifelong county resident and respected citizen he leaves two sons Hillary and Willis Dowling and a daughter Mrs Lena Green of Nelson county. He was a member of the Catholic church and noted for charitable deeds. Funeral services were held at St Rose and he was interred there.

Death Sentence Upheld in Sturgeon Case
The Court of Appeals affirmed the Jefferson Criminal Court in Sturgeon v Commonwealth. Clarence Sturgeon, who shot three men to death on June 13, 1906 at Eleventh and Congress, was sentenced to death. Victims were Iva McMichael Wilfred Braner and James Blackerby. Daisy Jackson, linked to the tragedy, later died by suicide. The Governor will set the execution date.

Death of David L Graves Pioneer Kentucky distiller
David Lawrence Graves, a pioneer Kentucky distiller, died May 31, 1907 at St Mary and Elizabeth Hospital Louisville after a period of declining health. He lived in Lebanon for the past five years and was born May 14, 1826 near Lebanon. He was the son of Jessie A Graves and Elijah Gannon, longtime Marion County residents from Maryland. Funeral services were held at the Cathedral of the Assumption Louisville, with burial in St Louis Cemetery beside his wife.
